I wonder about this too as I have a second daughter being married in Scotland this summer. However, in the Roman Catholic church there is no fee for the church and what you give the priest is purely a gesture and at the end of the day it's down to what you can afford. With my other daughter's wedding we had a priest friend marrying her and our own priest concelebrating. We gave our friend who carried out the service a substantial amount and we gave the other priest £100. With this wedding we will probably give the priest of the parish who is marrying her £200. I know here in Scotland other religious churches have a set fee but that often includes the organist etc. With the Catholic church the organist, singer(s) is normally organised by the bridal party, unless the actual church organist or choir is requested. These people normally state their fee so it is a bit different from other denominations. The donation you give entirely belongs to the priest. However, most priests give most of their donations away as in to Foreign Missions, Third World, local charities or church improvements. I know exactly where you are coming from when you ask this questions as it's not something you can just ask others who have had a Catholic wedding. All the best.

Most parishes request a contribution to offset the costs of maintaining, heating and lighting the church itself. An offering for the priest, servers and sacristan is normal. Separate arrangements are made with the organist and soloists. The parish personnel can advise regarding the flowers, red carpet etc.

Check with the priest that will be performing the ceremony or with a member of the office staff if possible. There may be different fees depending on whether you or your fiance is a member of the church you're being married in.

I was lucky enoughto have a priest in the family who nailed us.

Is your priest coming to the reception? If so, I would suggest that this is some form of payment but bung him about £50 too if you feel generous. And don't forget a few quid for the Alterboys (persons).

..And have you considered hiring a caricaturist for the reception? I know a particularly good one here in Northern Ireland..

Ask him next time you see the priest , sometimes there is a fee for the use of the church or he may just say a donation . if it a donation about £100 quid is enought there will be plates left around for your guests awell to donate .

We gave our priest as much as he could drink and he was the last to leave after midnight. Not bad for a 12 noon wedding.

The priest will tell you. My daughter is getting married soon and the priest told us $300.

The amount of the donation that you give the priest is a personal decision just like all of your charitable contributions.

Just use your best judgment.

With love in Christ.

It depends how well organised the parish is. Usually there's someone in the church office who arranges the service, flowers, organist, choir and altar servers. They'll cost it out for you.
