The best thing would be to get out of any kind of religion.. in the past, religion was a way to civilize people.. it was the only way to do that. but now, we have various other things for that purpose.. like education, law, occupation, society, etc.. whatever religion you consider for that matter, has a text on how individuals should lead their life, carryout their activities (rituals) etc.. as far as the factor of "God" is concerned, we would definitely not need a religion to point to "God" at least from this point in time.. Those who believe it would do so anyway and those who dont, ... its okay with them too..
So unless we get rid of religion and unite on the basis of humanity, religion based hatred will never go away.
in my opinion caring about the "human being" next to you is definitely much much easier than to follow religion and hate the very same people

You may not be old enough to remember when that was tried in the last century. There was a 70+ year period in which several nations official banned all "religious superstition". The result was nations, that conservative estimates say, slaughtered more than 180 million people. Besides the imprisonment, torture, exile, harrassment, etc of hundreds of millions more. The atheist countries of the USSR, Red China, North Korea, North Vietnam, Cube, etc. have performed some of the worst crimes against their people in history. Stalin alone executed over 17 million (not counting those killed in battles) compares to Hitler's 6 million.
Compare that to the Crusades and other "Holy Wars". Historians usually point to the 11th century, and the fall of Jerusalem in July of 1095 as the worst centuries for religion wars. The total for the year was about 1 million world wide. That gives the atheist about a 180:1 kill ration victory over the worst religion has ever done.
Removing religion would not have the affect of stopping wars or hatred. It is not a issue with "religion", but rather with "sin". The only cure for "sin" is "religion".

I doubt it's religous superstition. I think it's greed and anger. The leaders of various nations are greedy and have a different hate from religious. BUT, they use God and religion as a means to control and sway popular opinion in their particular part of the world.
I also don't think we're destroying the planet. Humanity is by nature violent. Wars have been fought far before this generation of people have been around. And with greater damage, death, and destruction. Homo Habilis and Cro-Magnon man both competed at the same time for species dominance, and Homo won, since he figured out how to bash in Cro-Magnon's head first.
Violence wins. Violence is the supreme authority from which all other authority is derived. I'm not being negative, I'm just calling it as it is.
Starship Troopers is a good Vietman Era book that looks at violence. Give it a read.

I read a good book about metaphisic. The writer says that people might have differences in what they believe to be true. For example some people believe that their ancestor is adam and eve. But many other people don't think so.
So, the writer says, even though we have so many differences in our system of belief, people share system of values. All people always think that stealing is bad, aren't they?
So, in order to stop people hate each other we must learn the value lying beneath their faith. If we know that other people share the same value with us, there is no point in hating them. Right?

I say we mount an offensive against the God/s. I'll need 200 good fighters, 182 swords, and 3 crates of unholy water. Then will march upon the pearly gates and wreak havoc upon the hereafter.
That should get rid of that silly religious stuff.
