Alright, someone is a bit off.

Sidekick - hit with the heel
Back straight kick - hit with the heel
Hook - hit with the heel
Front kick - normally ball of foot for penetration and power, top of foot for range

Roundhouse kick/reverse round house kick - normally ball of foot for penetration and power, top of foot for range

Crescent - Blade of foot (out or in, depending on the direction)

While some styles have a type of front kick that hits with the heel, the motion that is used for a roundhouse negates the use of the heel as a striking surface. Think about the physics of a roundhouse kick and you'll see that to strike with the heel would be, well, silly.

As for what a reverse roundhouse is, basically, you spin as if you are doing a back straight kick and execute a roundhouse kick at the end of it. Done correctly, you can generate good power, with the ball of the foot.

Here's a link to a good reverse roundhouse kick used to break 1 pine board (12x12x1)

We focus on the ball of the foot mostly. The top of the foot would be the next preferable surface if the ball of the foot can not be used. The top of the foot is pretty formidable with shoes on but you still run the risk of injuring the small bones in the foot. The shin is a good contact surface too. If you get a good chamber and connect with the shin you are going to cause some damage to your target.

Well, I guess it the heel, but, it feel good to stretch the toes out and slap. I have not used this in 10 years. I mainly use my hands now and just go for defense, but, this not competition, just keeping dweebs from being stupid and killing themselves. They not realize how easy it is to fall and break a neck, but, I there to protect them. Ha!
But, heel be a good solid, I just never use it, flat foot will make a statement. But. as said, this just me, I not compete, OK?

with the heel would be a hook kick. a reverse round house is the same...with the top of the foot, but instead of bringing kick from your outside to your inside...you bring the kick from your inside to outside.
