Well, the most common hand signal in the US Army is flipping someone off.

To say "Hey" or "Hello", tho, we wave.

Where are you and what do you do? Forgive me, but your name looks Arabic and you claim to see many American soldiers, so I would prefer not to answer your question.

Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but better that than teaching you anything about hand signals in the US Army.

I'd say the salute is the most common hand signal.

If you want to say hi though either say it or wave. If you salute to someone who doesn't need it (or you aren't recognised to give them properly because you're not uniform) you'll look like an a*s.

Just the good old fashioned "Thumbs Up" should do.
