Yep, and also, in some applications it is used to set the order for alphabetic sorting. Like is an "n" a lower or higher letter than an "tilde n". Depends on the alphabet system being used.

It means you can decide settings in your computer according certain country, e.g. you choose UK then the clock in your Windows is set according to time in UK. Writing system is also set according UK's writing system. For example, instead of showing January 16, 2007 (US style), it will show 16 January 2007 (British style). For some other countries, number writing system is also different. Instead of showing 15,000.52 it will show 15.000,52.
