If we lose Iraq it will be big news for a week and then it will be forgotten. Source?....."Vietnam on 30th April 1975". We lost on that day but a week later the news was all about the weather, Baseball, Elvis, President Ford and Bob Hope. The war was forgotten by the first week in May of 1975. Stay tuned for the ending of Iraq.

Not sure exactly what you're hoping to accomplish with such a trite and meaningless question. If you want to point out something, then point out that on the same day that Anna Nicole's babies daddy was announced there were bombs set off in the Gaza strip, people died in India, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Yet none of these truly important stories were covered, because the 24 hour news agencies all focused on the tiny island of Bermuda. For what, a paternity test.
As for what would make someone cry, war in itself should make supporter and non supporter cry. For the lives lost, both military and civilian - the country's turmoil - the backwards politics - the sheer struggle. As for what the media reports, this is something you should take up with the major corporations that OWN the major outlets. Yep, that's right free speech filtered down through corporate America. They decide what's acceptable - well they and the couch potatoes from the Nielsen group.

No, your comment is not "thoughtless or brainless", you have made a comparison to the war being fought in Iraq with that of the war that was fought in Vietnam. Thousands and thousands of other Americans have made the same comparison. In both wars, the U.S. NEVER declared war on its opponent. Remember, in Vietnam the U.S. largely WON every battle, but since it was a political war, one does not need to say "We lost (Vietnam) on the 30th of April, 1975" when the Vietnamese UNIFIED their country which was divided by the political actions of OTHER countries. When will an American admit, the Vietnamese WON the political war in Vietnam, even if the country was unified under a repressive communist government? Your point is - the news may have focused on drab entertainment rather than on the end of a 30-year struggle for the Vietnamese people to become one nation. Yes, it is quite possible the same thing will occur in Iraq, but the poltical situation is MUCH different there.

The world moves on eventually like it should. Veterans however often do not. They will always have a part of them that remains which was part of the service experience. Thats one thing that I think that many do not understand. When the uniform is hung up and its time to start living normal again... if there is one thing that a veteran fully appreciates..... its peace and the opportunities that lay ahead of them. They went without them for so long. If you ever want to fully appreciate the emotion that comes with a soldier leaving family and friends, loved ones,,,,, freedom you should watch them before they leave. I watched a guy kiss the grass in the good old USA when he came home. Nah.... Do what you will. They know better.

For people who's world does not revolve around "the news" (which is probably most of us) it won't matter what the news reports on. When we left Vietnam in 1975, my grandparents, who had been living in Saigon, lost many of their good friends to the ensuing slaughter. I met a friend in high school who had fled the slaughter by sneaking out with her uncle... the rest of her family was murdered.

It has never mattered to me what "the news" feels is important to report on... I have rarely even agreed with "the news' " version of events...

What matters is what I know as the result of learning what I know from a wide variety of sources.

this war will never end...if bush has his way, but in his defense, i think it was a way to get pole-positioning, because things are stirring up over there and he wanted to be in control right out of the gate
