Well there are a lot of reasons to have an abortion. (note miscarriages are considered abortions). The world is over populated as it is, so if a women can not physically, mental, emotionally, and fiscally take care of a child i don;t see the point. You asked about adoption well what about the 40 weeks till that point? Not all agencies will cover prenatal care for the biological mothers, so you could end up with a severely handicapped child. What do you want the mothers of rape babies to do??? Your view is to make all abortions illegal. what about if the mothers life is in danger??? Unless you have personally been involved in the decision and know all the facts behind why that choice was made you should;t judge.
NOTE to those who mentioned that the women/men should have used protection. Well unless you want to go to a nation of abstinence till marriage then you will always have mishaps. ALL THREE OF MY CHILDREN WERE CONCEIVED ON BIRTH CONTROL. Depo, Pill and Patch w/ condoms. I don;t believe in abortion but with this third one i came close to getting one. It will be a very tight situation for a few years (20+). But i could;t do it. That doesn't mean i think that the option should be removed from my hands.
The only thing i disagree with is when the father wants the child and the mother doesn't. I think you need consent from him then. (actually here in japan you need the father to sign the papers too).

You are generalising here. There are many valid reasons for abortion. Sometimes the baby is not formed properly and will have a very short life outside the womb or a severe handicap which will result in a very poor quality of life. In these cases, I think it's perfectly valid to terminate a pregnancy. Other times a woman may have been raped and is forced into difficult circumstances where she has to make the difficult decision. It's not for you to judge others who are going through one of the most difficult times of their life. You don't know what the individual circumstances are of these women so you really have no right to judge them. You need to be more educated about this and not in the christian propaganda way (a lot of those video's they show are doctored and not realistic at all).

You're a 19 year old boy. OK.
If you have sex, do you act responsibly and wear a condom to prevent accidental conception? If not, you have no right to give any opinion.
It's the girl's body and it is HER right to choose, not your choice.
You haven't said how it would be determined that the baby was unwanted. You see, there were many unwanted babies born when abortion was illegal, and they were often not treated well by their mothers, or were a battleground between mother and her parents or between mother and father (irresponsible boyfriend).
I do not believe in abortion, but this is my own moral belief, and neither you nor I have the right to FORCE our opinions down the throats of others in this topic. I would not force my belief on any woman who feels she needs an abortion. Why do you feel YOU have the right to force your beliefs on her? You are not really trying to protect the baby's rights; you're just trying to force your moral beliefs on these women who want to consider abortion.
There is a big argument that has never gone away over when the two cells become a human being and hence, deserving of protection against termination.
Abortion would not just go away if it was made illegal. It was illegal years ago and all that happened was that butchers did the abortions and the young girls died as well as the babies.
So get off your soapbox. You weren't around when abortion was illegal, but I WAS and while I don't believe in abortion, I support the right of each woman to make her own choices. I believe we need to encourage boys and girls to both take precautions to prevent conception, ESPECIALLY the BOYS! I believe we need to encourage young pregnant women to give stronger consideration to adoption as an alternative to abortion.
There are serious emotional negative repercussions to having an abortion. I wish more teens could see the movie "Assignment Life" that I got my children's school to show. It was excellent and showed both sides of the question.
I am amazed you think the law can figure out which babies are unwanted so they can force the mothers to give their babies up for adoption or give them to others to care for. You have no idea of the legal ramifications of that concept.
If you got a girl pregnant, and you wanted to raise the baby but she didn't want the baby, I can guarantee you'd go balistic if the law sent your baby up for adoption because it's mother didn't want it.

There's only one thing that's worse than having an abortion. Forcing a female to carry a fetus in her body that she does not want to have there from a man who was or wasn't a willing partner. What chance does the child have to know love? It will be a product of what it has grown in & felt for 9 months. Even if it gets adopted into a loving home, it will suffer mental torment for it's entire life because it grew in an atmosphere of hatred in a body that didn't want it there. Is this not far worse than eliminating it from coming into this world to become another hatefilled human? Abortion isn't something that you have to like. You just need to accept the fact that it does exist & most people are never forced into having an abortion. It still remains a choice that the woman must live with the rest of her life. Men also are effected by this choice, but it is better than having to raise children that are not wanted or loved. Perhaps if more men learned to say NO when a woman crosses the lines of good sense & engages in premarital sex, there would be a lot less abortions & unwanted children in this world. Abstinence is best for a guaranteed abortion-free world. Unfortunately, I don't think this will happen in the world of sexual freedom that runs rampant in the world we currently live in!

So if a 12 yr old girl became pregnant as a result of rape and did not want the baby she should have it anyway. Go through a pregnancy at that young age and have everyone in her community know what terrible thing has happened to her (i don't know if you've ever been raped, but I'm sure you might like to keep it pretty private) and then put it up for adoption. Children put up for adoption don't always get adopted, that child could have a miserable life in orphanages and in and out of foster care for it's whole life. There are simply not enough people in this world looking to adopt. There's also the issue of the mother not being well enough for whatever reason to cope with pregnancy or labour. I know if it were me in such a situation that my husband, son and the rest of my family would want ME to live. It's not always just because 'they do not want them' . Not everything is black and white you know.

it's just has always been the law. i agree with you, if the mother didn't want the baby or didn't want to take the risk of getting pregnant, she shouldn't have had sex especially without protection. i think they don't realize what they are doing at the time of abortion, when i was 15 i got pregnant and in the state where i live, i couldn't make the decision because i was under 18, my parents made me get an abortion and i was told that i didn't have any choice because i was underage, and my parents said that if i kept the baby i would have to go live on the streets and keep myself up, i was scared and confused, and not a day goes by that i don't think about it and i still cry myself to sleep at night over it. that was 18 years ago, and so i never had sex after that without birth control and protection until now since i am married and knew that i wanted to have a baby. i really wish people would think long and hard about abortion before they do something like that and then live to regret it.

I used to agree with you, but what about the mother's who go on to have these babies and abused and kill their babies? And all of those babies don't get adopted, they end up in foster care with potentially abusive foster parents. What about rape victims? What about women whose birth control method has failed? See you're a 19 yr old boy, you don't understand the full dyamanics of it. Personally, I'm Pro-choice and I don't care what other people think. I was raised in the foster care system and it is horrible. I would never want to see a child go through some of the things I went through. When I got pregnant with my daughter, I was using birth control and it failed. I considered abortion at one point, because I wasn't ready and I didn't want to bring a child in the world in the midst of my drama. I decided otherwise and my life has changed so much. I don't regret anything, but I think the option should still be there.

Because a lot of people do not believe that a foetus constitutes a complete human life with the same rights as born individuals. Yes it is 'alive' but many do not believe an unconscious foetus is the same as a born, breathing human being.
No-one should be forced to carry a pregnancy to term that they don't want. If abortions were illegal, women would still seek them, and many would die, as they used to.
The fact that you say that the baby should just be sent away to be adopted proves that you do not really understand the issue at all. And there is nothing wrong with that, you are young and you have limited experiences. But you should not demonise other people for their choices.

there are alot more guys that think the opposite of you. They dont care that they got a girl pregnant and in a horrible position with no way to care for the child.
Until you can be a woman, you cant really decide for them.
How about you rally for a male birth control pill.. or start educating the young men about the risks of unprotected sex and the responsibilities that go with having sex and creating life.

i agree but you have to realise that making abortion illegal, would see a huge in crease in situations of backstreet abortions and unwanted babies dumped in trash cans. which ever way its a lose lose situation
