I went to Catholic school until 8th grade, then to a public school for high school. I'm an atheist because nothing of religion ever made sense, and science has better answers.

**Edit** Judging by the answers, I think your "friend" just got blown out of the water.

Where a person was educated is irrelevant to whether or not they believe that there is a man living in a cloud. I would guess that atheism is more prevalent with individuals that have higher levels of education. With advanced education a person would learn that the story of Noah & Arc is a fabrication because 2 of every species of living things on this planet weighs about 100 million tons and Noah would have needed an Arc a few miles long.

I would guess that the vast majority of home-school situations are for religious reasons. All of the homeschoolers I know are active members of an evangelist version of Christianity.

I believe in God, I do not believe in religion, so where that puts me I don't know. However, I gained my education in public school.

As far as your friend, he needs to get a clue. People don't believe because they have been turned from religion and God for a reason- they see to much death, destruction, hatred, to believe that a God should be worshipped that has placed that within their realm.

Me I dislike religion because I associated all wars to religion in one aspect or another. I think that priests that take advantage of little kids should be shot, not transferred to another church. Because I have seen sins commited on Friday, forgiveness given on Sunday and the same sins commited on Monday- by men of the cloth.

Your friend needs to get out more, gain an education not based in religion

I doubt it.
Most homeschooled kids do not know how to make decisions. They usually lack social skills as well.
Their world is all about what mommy tells them.

Most atheist have had exposure to all sorts of cultures and can therefore make educated choices and decisions on their own because they can compare their ideas to life experiences in the real world.

lol i wen't to catholic school, and i never to a liking to it. I had a brain and i used it, i thought for myself. Athiests aren't a cult, they aren't born into it. It's a decision people make. And most athiests dont believe in nothing, they more likely have a more scientific view on life and our origin. Most of them didn't get lost, or get mad at god- thats an agnostic- someone who jsut doesn't know what to believe- still making up their mind about it.

I am not homeschooled. What on Earth would that have to do with it anyway? Sounds like he is just out looking for ad hominem arguements.

I grew up Catholic and I'm actually agnostic (don't believe there is or is not a god) now. Catholic schools actually made me realize how ridiculous it makes some of the people in it. If you just put yourself into the realization that we are just parts of the evolutionary process and that we merely just exist like anything else, then you realize just how ridiculous the thought of religion is.
