I love vegies and leafy salads etc and I'm trying to lose a few pounds. After I have say a bowl of vegetables or fruit salad (theyre decent sized servings too), an hour later i'm still really hungry. Why is this? And why do I feel full after eating other ,maybe less healthier meals?

Carbs aren't as filling as protein. That's why they say that you can be hungry an hour after stuffing yourself with Chinese food: it's straight carbs. Top your salads with healthy proteins like tuna, chicken, or turkey and you'll probably find yourself staying full and fit.

Fruits and vegetables are very light foods. Usually what fills you up is fat - it sits in your stomach and it's heavy. Protein is also more filling, too. Fruits and vegetables are quickly digested by your body. To get more protein, try mixing some nuts, BEANS or whole grain foods to your fruit/veggie snacks. And try putting on lots of unprocessed olive/sesame seed oil on your salads for some great unsaturated fats. And try adding lean meats - chicken or steak - to salads as well to help fill you up and keep your figure.

But some types of fruits and veggies are more filling then others, such as bananas, pears, prunes, broccoli, spinach and carrots, because they are very high in fiber. Fiber fills you up too.

Just eat more, smaller servings of fruits and veggies throughout the day. It's not like you're going to be doing yourself any damage - they're great for you - full of vitamins, antioxidants, flavanoids...if you want to lose weight I'd suggest cardio in addition to a healthy diet.

leafy vegetables and such are very nutritious but they contain little calories. when eating salads you need to have some form of protein on it, egg, tuna, chicken, etc. and use an olive oil or soy bean oil based dressing.

a salad with only veggies and a light dressing may be only 150-200 calories, that isn't much of a meal. add in some protein and a little fat and that will keep your going much longer

As others above have mentioned, protein is the key. If you want to adhere to a strict vegetarian diet, there are still ways to get your proper share of protein without ingesting animal flesh.

Beans (including soybeans - a good source of protein), nuts, tofu, and various products incorporating some or all of the above mentioned ingredients are tasty sources of the protein your body needs.

Salad is an "appetizer".

It's not meant to fill you up. It's just a prelude to a meal.

So you only got the beginning. You stomach is waiting for the "rest".

Keep doing the salad thing. But afterwards, have some soup, which is also very low in calories and can be very filling.

veggies have less calories. i recently had the same problem. then i started drinking the slimfast shakes. in about 1 and a half months i was able to ween myself off the slimfast because the slimfast helped me control my appetite. it still took a little will power though. drinking alot of water helps tremendously also. water tricks your body into thinking it is full.

Because fruits and veggies contain a lot of water, which fills you up quickly, but it also breaks down and digests quickly.

fats and carbs fill you up, they are longer lasting as for simple carbs in veggies your body uses them up farely quickly.
