A witch is someone (male or female) who studies and practices the technique of witchcraft. Witchcraft is used in a number of different religious contexts; the one you probably hear the most about these days is the religion of Wicca, where many members are also witches.

In a modern Pagan context, Witchcraft 101 would go something like this, at least as I was taught: All things in the universe are interconnected by energy, which some witches (including Wiccans) perceive as Divine in nature. This is how witchcraft works: by focussing my intent, and using sympathetic correspondances (certain herbs for courage, for example), I can create an amulet using those herbs which will stimulate courage in the person who wears it. Similarly, by using a lock of hair from a person who is ill, I can (with their permission) set energies in motion that will help them to heal.

In this sense, witchcraft is a very mechanistic worldview. The entire universe is seen as a giant interconnected machine, and by applying one's will to exert pressure one area, one creates a cascade effect that causes change in another area.

Witchcraft is not being a woman in a pointed hat. Nor is it bring a curse on some one by chanting. The term witch and witchcraft have there roots formed in the Old testiment of the Bible ( torah ). Witchcraft is when a person uses her ways to sway a man to her ideas. Or vis verse. Or when a woman acts like a child to get her way. Or lets say a woman with holds sex from her husband to get her way. That is witchcraft.
The effects of witchcraft on a relationship are very destructive to say the least. The party that was abused by this often resents the other person. A hard heart can set in and often a divorce comes about when it could have been avoidable. Other forms of witchcraft are unforgivness, a untrained tounge, putting the wrong order of things in force. Lets say a wife puts the children over the husband. That is also witchcraft according to God. God created a order in marriage for the protection of all the family that order is. God , jesus, husband , wife , children. So the wife in submission to her husband actually has Empowered God to flow down thru Jesus to her husband then to her and then to her children. This brings peace into the home. But if a wife is in rebellion to her husband then it brings a different result. Destruction over time. A house can only have one master lest there comes tention into a relationship. Also God has desired to work in the husbands life to make him a minister to his family. God expects the wife to uplift her husband in prayer. God expects the man to uplift his wife in prayer. These two things are in a common unity of love. Satan wants the woman to rebell over the dumbest things to bring tention into a home. Witchcraft comes to bear that name because a womans rebellion to God desires in a home will bewitch the enviorment. Meaning it will become oppressive. Giveing satan a door which he can bring destruction thru.

A person who practices the art of magic. Other than that, I can't think of anything that all witches have in common. They may or may not be religious.

i have a couple of female friends who were witches and i forget the colour..green.?? well whatever ..they were both very knowledgeable about a lot of things in and out of the spiritual world. I learned a lot from them and they always treated me with respect although we did differ on some things basically we agreed on most things...witches are not the stereotype you see on TV or the movies..the ones that I met seemed to adjust to this busy world..
