I was brushing my teeth tonight (4/24) and noticed a tiny dark gray mark above one of my upper teeth along the gumline. I tried to floss it off and nothing happened. I tried using antiseptic mouthwash and it still remained. Should I be worried about this?

I usually brush my teeth twice a day.
I floss and use mouthwash every night. Where did this mark come from and how did I get it?

The last time I visited a dentist was August 29, 2005. That was the same day Hurricane Katrina hit the gulf coast.

I researched what tartar was on the Internet and the tiny dark gray mark does not match the description. Here is some proof: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calculus_%28dental%29

THIS IS EITHER AN OLD PIECE OF CALCULUS AKA.TARTAR, OR IT'S AN AMALGAM TATOO.
THE FIRST CAN BE REMOVED. THE LATER CANNOT.
SEE YOUR DEENTIST FOR TREATMENT OR OPINION.

you can go to a dentist to see if your enamel is wearing off. but it's nothing deadly i think. don't brush that area too hard incase it's not a growth but some part of your tooth decaying away. did you search google for dental advice.

tartar.
i think more than brushing, you have to visit your dentist for "clean up" every year. THis is what i do. I hope it also applies to you!

I can't imagine what it is! I'd go have the dentist check it out.
