Well I used to work at a VA hospital and we had an entire division called "volunteer services" that ran the volunteers. They volunteered all over the hospital, here are some key areas you might want to consider:

Canteen/Vending Area: This will be in the cafeteria section. You'll most likely work up front at the register, stocking goods, cleaning tables, or in the back, doing dishes, taking inventory, etc.

Food delivery/Food service: This is different from canteen and it's where you actually help prepare and take the food to the residences/patients in the hospital.

Volunteer Services: This would be office work, answering telephones, filing, data entry on the computer, that sort of thing.

Information desk: This is the reception area where you greet new patients and visitors to the hospital and help the find the area they are looking for.

Specific departments: Sometimes specific departments will ask for volunteers, like Xray, Oncology, etc. You'll be working most likely with patients and equipment specific to that area.

If you could list the areas they have on their preference form, I could give you more information.
I think it is wonderful you have a volunteering spirit and a giving heart, please keep it up and good luck!
