I had heard that vitamins such as Niacin, Thiamin, Biotin, B12 and B6 are helpful in fighting depression. I have been taking the stongest dosage I am allowed on everything but Thiamin( couldn't find it at my store). I SWEAR I am feeling better. I am not trying to create false hope for those who are suffering, but I wanted to pass this info along...because what can it hurt? And, my question is...have any of you tried vitamins and received positive results like I have? I know that the B12 complex didn't work for me...I have to take B12 alone, B6 alone, etc, because the B12 complex isn't strong enough doses. I read somewhere that they did studies and found that these sort of vitamins were said to help as much as anti-depressants. I am a believer! I really do believe it has worked for me. So, feedback please..anyone else had success with vits?

Yes, I do this and find it helpful. What I usually do is, I get the "stresstab" type of stress vitamins, they usually have a pretty stiff dose of B vitamins, and I take two of those a day instead of the one.....they are water-soluble so I can do this and not worry about buildup. ^_^ It is also cheaper than having to snag the B vitamins individually.

One friendly word of advice though....with niacin you do have to be careful about skin problems. Things like rashes, light sensitivity. And in really big doses any vitamin is going to be rough on the liver and digestive system, but at that point you are talking ridiculously high doses (think somewhere in the *tens of thousands* of percent of the RDA). So yes, this can be taken too far even if the water-solubles can't kill you....

Edit: I knew I had forgotten something. You do want to get either the basic stress-tabs-type vitamins or the ones with Zinc if you are going to try two a day and not just one. Do *not* try this with the ones that have *Iron* in them as the Iron will build up and get toxic fairly quickly. So stick with the basic ones or the ones with Zinc.

I hope this helps....take care and stay safe. ^_^

Thiamine is vitamin B1(see Google or Wikipedia websites). See your doctor about B6 & B12, as they can be harmful if overused. Also take 4 fish oil supplements daily. View http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on page 2: depression treatments/resources (read the page) and see www.mercola.com and closely examine the mental-health-abc website, and the anxiety/depression site is worth a look, too. If you use vitamin C, ensure you take a natural version [in addition to any supplements], like an orange, or grapefruit, to activate it. 1/2 an orange, daily, is enough for most people.

You might try a multi B vitamin like Stress Tabs. Vitamin B is essential to the healthy functioning of the brain. It's possible that you do have a vitamin B deficiency. Vitamin B is found in leafy green veggies like spinach and turnip greens (not in lettuce). People are eating less and less of these kinds of foods these days, so yes, it might help you. Be careful taking excessive amounts, though, especially the niacin. It can have unpleasant side effects. One Stress Tab taken daily should provide all of the B vitamins you need.

I've been clinically depressed for therefore a long time and I've took nutrients faithfully for decades and they do not aid. I simplest want it have been that effortless. Stick to the antidepressants. It's feasible to come to be tolerant to any antidepressant. Then the general practitioner generally raises your dosage otherwise you take a look at anything else. I've attempted approximately each and every antidepressant available in the market, adding Prozac. I'm presently on Paxil.

Fish oil (omega-3) helped me. Not just with depression, but irritability, concentration, and other things as well. I read about it in a book called "Your Miracle Brain" and I tried it, and it worked!
