Do you have short hair, or long hair? The longer your hair, the older your hair, so maybe the hairdresser didn't cut enough off to get rid of your split ends.

Around May last year, I too began having a problem with split ends. I wondered what it could be. But then I realised that highlighting my hair was doing all the damage - peroxide is incredibly damaging.

In September last year I stopped colouring my hair completely. I stopped blow drying and I rarely straightened my hair. I washed and conditioned every second (or even third) day instead of everyday.

I also bought myself some salon shampoo and conditioner (I use Wella Biotouch, I find the Reconstructing Conditioner very, very good for my ends!) and I stopped brushing my hair so frequently.

Now, after caring for it and not damaging my hair for the past seven months, my hair is beautiful and healthy - and occasionally I see a split end and I just snip it off. EVERYONE has split ends, regardless of how healthy, unhealthy, short or long their hair is. It's just that those with damaged or dry hair have a tendency to end up with more.

Bottom line is, treat your hair with some TLC.... invest in an excellent shampoo/conditioner made specifically for your hair type, if you colour, colour your hair less frequently, and avoid all heat appliances on your hair.

Good luck!

P.S. Try mayonnaise or olive oil on your hair - don't leave it for too long though. Home remedies are very easy to Google.

I don't know why your split ends came back but next time you have a haircut, you might be able to prevent them from coming back (at least so soon) by putting on some leave-in conditioner on them and then some serum on all your hair (after you shampoo and condition your hair as usual). A deep-conditioning treatment once a week, or else, once a fortnight, might also help you fortify your hair, as well as a good shampoo specially designed for long, dry, or damaged hair. Last but not least, when shampooing your hair remember to apply the product and massage it onto your scalp only; let the shampoo clean your ends when rinsing it off.

Causes of Split Ends and Breakage:

Getting your hair trimmed every couple of months
A good conditioner
By not placing your hair in tight pony tails especially, buns etc
Brushing your hair hard when wet especially,or when dry can cause breakage
Over processed hair, chemical treatments
Straighteners and blow drying puts strain on hair over time

Good home remedies for moisturizing include olive oil, and honey for the hair, some use egg in their hair too.

1] trim your hair at least every six weeks
2] don't blowdry or straighten unless you use a protecting serum
3] blot dry with a towel - don't rub!
4] avoid brushing- use a wide tooth comb
5] use shampoo, conditioner made for your type hair
6] use a deep conditioner weekly until your hair is in good shape
7] I would cut off all the split ends so they don't progress up the hair shaft

conditioner, and conditioning gel (just put it on the ends so it doesnt make your hair greasy)
also, dont dye or bleach it too much, especially by yourself- the home kits will really dry your hair out.
ask your hairstylist next time you go, he/she should have some suggestions and be able to recommend products specifically for your hair, if not - you should go to a new hairstylist!!
also, if you use a straightener- get a chi if you can afford it, it is much gentler on the hair (but try to use a blow dryer to straighten it as much as you can - the less direct heat, the better for your hair)

Make sure you get your hair trimmed every six weeks and use a leave in conditioner. Also if you are using blow dryers, curling irons, or flat irons or anything that has to do with heat against your hair make sure to use something to protect against that as well. you can also check into a good conditioner or get a hot oil treatment.

are you using an flat iron without some type of heat protection product? Do you use a vented or natural bristle hair brush? Do a moisturizing tmt. only on your ends. You must also have darker hair, they show up more on darker hair.

first of all dont wash your hair but once or twice a week, then when you get your hair cut next time get a boar bristle brush, get a wide one for thick long hair, use that it will feel to soft to begin with but use it anyway, I had the same problem, I just got my hair cut about a month ago and it still looks like I got it cut yesterday.
