I think they're more instinctual, and use more of their senses to assess things. Since photos and mirrors don't smell like they do, I'm sure they can't recognize themselves as such. The movement in the mirror and in the reflection of the window is what appeals to frisky felines, not the idea that it's themselves or another cat. I'm not sure that cats have brain development or function adequate to have any sense of themselves as others see them. Since their ability to extrapolate information seems to be less than humans, dolphins, apes and elephants, it would be reasonable to think that they wouldn't be able to see a reflection and know it was themselves.

I don't think so. Back when my cat was still a kitten, she saw herself in the mirror and thought it was another cat, she had a good time playing with her reflection.

The scientific answer is no, but I'm not entirely convinced. The question is, would she care if she saw herself in the mirror? People are weird in that way!

Nope. Besides people, the only animals that can recognize themself in a mirror or reflection are dolphins, monkeys, and elephants. :)
