My boss told us staff members at a meeting that we all need to lose our belly fat. Now, how appropriate is that? And is it any of his business. NONE of us are obese, but we don't look like Nicole Ritchie either.

I am incredibly embarrassed now to be around my boss. How would you handle the situation? It has made for a very akward business relationship now? And is it any of his business anyway? We don't for for gym or anything like that.

I don't think the indiscretion was offensive enough to warrant legal action. I would say that it is fine, if you feel you are close enough to your boss, to ask for a few minutes to talk to him about the comment. If you don't feel that you could talk to him directly go to his immediate boss or your human resources department. It was inappropriate for him to make such comments but it is possible that the problem could be remedied in a way that not only allows him to see and change his negative management practices but would also allow him to apologize to the department. A lawsuit is not feasible for time and money reasons and an open and honest conversation could do more for him and the department in the long run.

Well, I am appalled at what I see when I go out in public today. Fat, fat, fat. It's plainly disgusting and unhealthy. The more people that complain and send Americans a message to shed some pounds, the better.
Ever see films of groups of Americans in any past age.... 30's, 40's, 50's, 60', 70's, or even the 80's? They, as a group, were all plainly thinner than we are today.
Like I said, let's get the weight off and encourage each other to do it, hopefully in positive ways.
By the way, ever go home and just dance for an hour or so to some really great music? That will melt pounds if done over a period of time. Almost anyone can do this. Additionally, avoiding high fructose corn syrup in drinks, snacks, and other foods will go a long way to shed pounds. Research is showing the body tends to convert that stuff straight into fat.

Where are you working?! What is your job, anyway?! Man, this is a new one.
Okay, your boss is your boss, right? So, if he says that you should lose your belly fat, then he must provide you with the tools to do it which would be, in this case, a free membership card at the best gym in town. Tell him that he MUST provide you with those cards, if he wants to see some results. It's only fair.

Do you know that is called discimination!. He has no right what so ever to tell you to loose weight. You can take him to court for damages. Trust me you have a very strong case, (I work in a law firm) if you get together with the rest of the staff members and drag his sorry *** to court and get money outa him. We had a lady working where i"m working at, she was obese, unkept and really smelly, but I tell you what never did I hear my boss tell her to change her habits, she would meet clients the way she was, she had facial hair and everything you can imagine, but no one said anything to her because she was doing her job and whatever her appearance it didn't matter to my boss.

i would ask the other staff members very discreetly if they will be willing to take it further, if not then i would leave and find another job if it has made work very uncomfortable for you. And no he has no right to say that thats slander and discrimination!

What kind of job do you have? I could understand if it was modeling or something, but if its a regular desk job or even maintence or stand up job, I dont think its any of his buisness. Especially to tell everyone. I think it could even go as far as discrimination or harrassment if you wanted it to

Its strange and awkward for him to be telling you that. I would report this to the Human Resources department where you work. This is as you said none of his business.

Send him an anonymous typed note that says: "Confucious say: He who has fat *** shouldn't be criticizing fat bellies of others."

Was he referring to the employees or the excess spending and you might have taken it the wrong way?
