It depends on the grade of the murmur. They can grow out of it. They can also live normal lives.

It is possible it will disappear with age, or it may get worse with age.

Heart murmurs are fairly common congenital conditions in some breeds, particularly boxers and cavalier king charles. What breed is this dog?

Responsible breeders do not breed from dogs with heart conditions, to try to get rid of the problem from the breed.

The best thing to do is take the dog to the vet for regular check ups (every 6 months). You will then be aware if the heart murmur is getting better or worse and have a better idea of the prognosis for the pup. A vet will also be best to advise you on what you can expect.

Be aware that some animals can live with hear murmurs with no problem. Each animal is different.

It will depend on the type and the severity. I had to put my barely two year old GSD down on the third because of a grade 5 subaortic stenosis. My mom had a 25 (no kidding) year old chihuahua with a very mild murmur. It was a long time ago so I don't remember the type but I think it was only a grade one and didn't affect him at all. There are juvenile heart murmurs that can be outgrown. Only a canine cardiologist is qualified to tell you what kind of murmur it is, how bad it is, and what the prognosis is.

It depends on how bad the murmur is. Only a veterinarian can help with it.
