Me and my fiancee are trying to come up with ideas to raise money to help offset the cost of our wedding. We know the stag idea, and a possible blocks hockey pool. Does anyone have any other ideas (we only want to do one, so it has to be a good one)?

Edit: To those mentioning about "don't have a fundraiser," it's not an abnormal thing. There are stags/Stagette parties, where people buy tickets to attend. There are ticket draws. There are raffles. I've been parts of lots of weddings where there have been fundraisers. I asked for ideas, not comments about my wedding.

You just can't DO that... put on a wedding that you can afford!

If you are blessed with so many friends and such a large family that all you can afford to offer in the way of refreshments is a piece of cake and a cup of tea, serve that cake and tea proudly and be happy that so many people are there for you on your special day.

If you just want to have an ostentatious blow-out that is beyond your means, scale back your plans and remember that a wedding is a one day event... your marriage is your real life. Put your effort and finances into that.. but don't try to 'raise funds' as if you were a charity.

Boy there are some ruthless people out there aren't there, whew! Don't let the negativity get you down. You are doing your own thing and that's great. Maybe you could do a candle fundraiser - "Buy a candle and know that you are a part of helping us light the way to wedded bliss" - corny but you get what I'm saying. Just about everyone loves candles and will probably buy for themselves or as gifts, which in turn helps you raise money :) A lot of people think it's lots of fun to help others so try it out!!

Wow..inviting guests to "offset" the cost of your wedding. Classy. How about getting another job, saving money, or asking parents to help? Or maybe just having a wedding the two of you can fund on your own? Garage sale is a good idea, having friends and family pay to go to some fund raising event is ridiculous.

I have never heard of such a thing. I can't believe you would be asking people to pay for your wedding. Will they have to buy their own food and drinks also? You should plan on a wedding you can afford , and not expect your guests to foot the bill.

Have a garage sale...sell the old things that you have and that you have the new ones on your registry.
Don't put a collection jar or anything like that. its a little tacky when it seems like you TRYING to raise money for your wedding.... do it low key... you sell stuff people don't need to know that the money is going towards a wedding.
Congrats to you two!

not to sound rude but it sounds like you are planning a wedding that you simply cant afford. how about toning down your wedding so that you afford it and not have to offset anything.
