Why would it be such a bad thing? Surely husbands and fathers are holy, too...

To insinuate that Jesus was married would be to insinuate that he had sex, which would insinuate that he was neither divine nor celibate and that would insinuate that celibacy for priests is completely ridiculous.

Which it is.

Since this is a common question, I'm going to give the same response I did two weeks ago. If it were really true, I'd be fine with that idea. And as a preacher's daughter, I believe that a married person definitely can serve God.

But 'll tell you why I don't believe that Jesus was married.
1) The Bible does refer to at least one disciple's mother in law, but nothing is ever mentioned about Jesus having an in-law in the Bible.
2) Something this significant as Jesus having been married would have been mentioned. In fact, many of the Old Testament Prophets were not married.
3) Also, when Jesus was on the cross in John 19:25-27, why would Jesus only have been concerned about the welfare of his mother and say nothing about his wife? Both Mary Magdalene and his mother, Mary were there at that time. Why would Jesus not be concerned about his wife's welfare if he was truly married? Take into consideration that in Matthew 19, Jesus talks about in marriage, that the two become one flesh? That just simply doesn't make sense that Jesus would have no concern for a wife, especially if she was standing there.

Hope this helps to explain why so many of us do not take Dan Brown's book as more than just a person trying to discredit the Bible. What concerns us is that so many people will believe his theories.

Question: "What is offensive about the idea that Jesus was married? Why would it be such a bad thing? Surely husbands and fathers are holy, too..."
===

It slaps the Christian homosexuals and celebates in the face with insult, saying "No, Jesus wasn't single. Yes, he was a family man, and yes, as our Examplar, we should do the same."

That is the cold hard reality. It simply goes against deviate traditions which have been established because of gaps in the Bible that let people "fill in" the blanks as they desire.

I find no offense whatsoever to the idea that Jesus may have been married. He was perfect and He obeyed all of the Father's commandments. Having sexual relations in wedlock is not a sin. (Hello!) And, if I do recall correctly, the same commandments that were given to Adam & Eve (marry and multiply, etc) apply to all of us. Why was Jesus baptized if He were perfect and did not need to be "cleansed of sin"? Because He was following the commandment of His Father and putting for the example to us all that we should do the same. And just because something is not in the Bible, does not mean it's not true. Hello? What about all the other books of scripture the Bible references that are not a part of the Bible. There was a lot more we do not have in our hands and we do not understand. There were many more prophets that recorded events that were lost in history.

Because there is no evidence, no witnesses. That's offensive.

Mary was Jesus' mother, and He told John, while on the cross, to take her into his home and take care of her. Mary Magdalene was there as well. If they were married, Jesus would have provided for her as well. Do you think after the resurrection that Jesus would have known that Mary M. was pregnant with their child? Yet, when He spoke to her, she called Him "teacher", not "husband", and neither spoke of activity in the womb. A little common sense is needed here.

If you don't want to believe, then say so. But don't base it on ignorant revisionist history like the Da Vinci Code. Looks like the world is all ready for the coming deception...

2 Thessalonians 2:11-12
For this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Catholics and Christians have created a mystique about Jesus being God Himself who went down to earth and took human form as His Chosen Son to deliver mankind from the sins they have done against Him. You as a believer, what would you think if he had been presented as a married man?
Plus the idea of Jesus staying single is helpful specially for the Catholics who impose priestly celibacies. At least Protestants who call themselves Christians have moved away from that, that is why they can have their own family.
The Book of Timothy says "That if someone have no family to take care of, how can he take care of his community?"The Catholics on the other hand have been stricly imposing the warning of Jesus."No one can serve two masters at the same time." Though Jesus was telling his disciple about serving God and Money at the same time, the religion have also tried to associate with having no other responsibility but the church.

Because then the bible is a lie. Everything that Jesus preached would then be a lie. There is nothing historically that proves that Jesus was married. There is not physical that proves that was Jesus either. There is historical proof that He rose from the grave and that there were no bones there. So almost 2000 yrs later, someone digs up some bones with common names and says thats our Messiah. Yeah right

The reason that it seems so unholy is that it is all speculation...there are no scriptures to back it , plus~
Jesus was put here to carry out his duty to God, being married was not a part of the plan..
I do not believe he was married.
Other opinions differ.
The main thing is that he did come for the sole purpose of sacrifice ~ to rid us of our sins by promising of everlasting life!

It is a bad thing because the Bible didnt say it happened. No, wife, no kids. That Da Vinci BS has got everyone twisted. That painting was made by a dude who lived waaaaayyy after the Bible times...think about it.

There is absolutely nothing offencive about Jesus being married, in fact it brings me closer to him I am catholic and I have always trusted the wisdom Christ has taught all of us, some people simply ignore it that's all, and that's their choice and that's OK.

Jesus was divine, and above all other humans. If he submitted to earthly desires like marriage and sex, then he would be like the rest of us. That's why priests, nuns, and monks, don't get married. They've devoted their lives to God.
