From what i have gathered in my time in Y!A, i have found that some (not all, but most) Christians are very quick to condem and point the finger at others when something bad happens, but when their put under the spotlight, they are quickly defensive and play the 'a real Christian wouldn't do that' card.

Christians, dont get offended, its just what i have seen here. i may be wrong.

And now look at the hypocrites who say "you can't judge Christians based on these bad apples",

The same people who judge Islam based on what they see on TV.

I am a Christian who believes Christians go around and give Jesus a bad name. The interpretation of Jesus's life and belief system has been filtered through so many self-serving souls that I hate to admit this but most Christians do not come even close to what Jesus taught and use Christianity to boost themselves and denigrate others. For instance I have a Catholic acquaintance that say he was taught homosexuality was a sin in the Catholic church, so he thinks it is wrong. Well then Asked him what the Catholic church thinks about pre-marital SEX, AND HE DIDN'T HAVE AN ANSWER, because that is a sin he indulges in. I can only beg people to read the new testament of the bible to see Jesus words and deeds not judge by the behavior of a cafeteria Catholic (sometimes known as a Christian)

Some do what you say, but I would hardly say that it is "most". I have never pointed a finger at others when something bad happens. I am, however, one of those who will say that a Christian (forget the "real" stuff) should not do something, if a Christian has erred.

I know we are not perfect, but we follow God the best we can. If that is considered hypocritical to you, then so be it, but I honestly don't see it that way.

And nope, I am not offended, I just think you may be wrong :)

All military experts, around the globe, use in their military and political 'coups' a deceptive ploy called 'disinformation. This is not something new under the sun. If you want to discredit a person, political system, or a group of people that hold to a certain belief, all you have to do in todays world, is spread false rumors. Another way is to pay someone to claim allegiance to such a group or system and direct them to do something discrediting. Our government does it all of the time. How much more so, with a very real enemy to your soul, (the devil), to raise up many "professing christians" which constantly exhibit deplorable behavior. I'll write more later.

I'm not trying to be the slightest bit nasty, but have you not noticed that when a Christian asks a question, some Atheist races to be the first to post a sarcastic or "funny" answer, followed by several others? (Rim shot, please!)

Thoughtful and respectful answers are always found later in the postings, from all kinds of people.

Disrespect and hypocrisy are the character traits of disrespectful hypocrites, no matter what their beliefs about God.

ok, here's the lowdown on the 'a real Christian wouldn't do that' card.

first, it's a simple catch-phrase that meant something important but it's overuse has played down the meaning.

Basically, you have to realize that while a person may be a Christian in that they have professed Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and confessed their sins, they are still made from flesh and are tempted by fleshly desires. One of these desires is to be right!!! It's a pride thing that all people have. So, when they're faith is under attack they respond incorrectly by getting defensive (just as anyone could). And when they think they're right, they might snub someone to prove their point (again, just as anyone else could). It doesn't make it right and Christians are not supposed to do that. They aren't any less Christian, they just have an issue that might need to be addressed and if they continue to commune with God, He will point the flaw out to them.

Christians put under the spotlight about what? Also, I don't play cards. When calling something the way I and millions of others see it becomes playing cards, then I guess my multi-tasking skills are getting better. I love it when I refute someone and piss them off at the same time.

I'm very sad to say, as a Christian myself, that the Church is full of hypocrites and has been since the very begining. But, I ask that you realize that that is "sin nature", (our natural tendency to do evil instead of good) not Christ-likeness talking. I apologize for it. If I alone could change it and help evey Christian including myself be strong, wise, self-controlded, and gentle all the time, I would, but that is not possible.

So, again, I apologize and ask that you do not giveup on Christians or our faith just because we wander.

God Bless,
J

I would like to have examples of what you mean. There is not enough information to adequately answer this question. Christians point the finger at who for what? What Christians have been put in the spotlight and for what? Sorry, I must be a little slow tonight. It is getting late.

You have a point. But we're just human after all aren't we?

We should be civil about it, but we also have the right to defend ourselves.

I agree with the "few bad apples" analogy posted earlier. It wouldn't be right or logical to judge a whole group of people based on a few individuals in one forum (Y!A) - not even a valid scientific sample when you get right down to it...

PS. I just got a thumbs down rating for the above answer/thoughts. Who is being judgemental now??

I sometimes wonder if it is even possible to have an intellectual discussion on Y!A.

In America they probably are, but likely because they are a majority. I'll bet in Islamic countrys a Muslim would be the most hypocritical.
