People believe in the truth of religious doctrines that are neither founded upon nor defended by logic, reason, evidence, or science, yet these people obviously use logic etc. in going about other issues. Isnt this way of thinking backwards and unreliable???

--THE FAITH in nominal or church christianity(not Christ's christianity--with the trinity, hellfire etc.) is indeed "blind faith" or credulity!

--THIS IS THE BIBLES FAITH that is also practiced by factual scientists(not evolutionary)--

(Hebrews 11:1) 11" Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld. "

--This SAME faith was exercised by Astronomers when the definetly knew that Pluto existed , not because they could see it (telescopes not powerful enough) BUT because its orbit was affecting the orbits of the other planets!

the Q in & of itself...is an oxymoron.
1)Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for,
the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld.
The Entire chapter 11 book of Hebrews speaks of those who by faith, gave evident demonstration of realities, though not yet beheld.
3)By faith we perceive that the systems of things were put in order by God's word*, so that what is beheld has come to be out of things that do not appear**.
i.e. our planets balance, sun, moon, rain cycle, universe*, / God,angels, heaven**.
4) Abel 5) Enoch 7) Noah 8) Abraham11) Sarah
17)Abraham 20) Issac 21) Jacob 23) Moses
31)Rahab 32) Gideon ,Ba'rak,Samson,
Jephthah, David, Samuel.
The other Scriptures that were not mentioned were speaking of the things that these faithful ones did, because of their faith.
Or the things that did not happen, because of their faith.
Hebrews 11:1-40
We do have logic, reason, evidence and science, and Faith.
It is You, that does not.

Science is not always reliable. They used to think the world was flat. Faith is intangible. Actually people had faith that the scientists were right about the world being flat. Faith and logic are two separate things. Go look it up in the dictionary.

Faith is only reliable if your faith is in the Truth.
Jesus Christ is the Truth.
God's Word, the Bible is the Truth.
I know whereof I speak.
I've proved it in my own experience now over 36 years.
I heard the testimony of a woman tonight who received her 19 year old son back from what should have been a fatal car wreck by believing God. He was pronounced brain dead by the doctors. She called on God.
Today he is completely restored and normal.

first time I drove across the Golden Gate bridge, I did it all by faith and was a bit nervous. Now I trust it because it has PROVEN to be trust worthy.

God has PROVEN to be trust worthy. But it started by faith.

If you take the time to study those 33,000+ Bible verses, you will be amazed at what you find. But it is obvious that you have NOT done that, in fact, I'll bet you haven't spent 3 hours in study of the Bible, yet you are critical of those who like it.

Do the work, then perhaps you can say that you earned the right to be critical.

If BILLIONS of people around the world believe in some sort of religion ever since the beginning of time and we still have a world to speak of, obviously SOMETHING must be right in the equation.

What, pray tell, is unreliable about hope?

I'd like to just say that sometimes you need to stop and look around. Be simple. Say you're not a christian. Say you were brought up in an atheist home. Here's what some would call a "story" about a God that created a world. He made two people to live in a garden. He gave them free will, and they like all of us, screwed up. He forgave them, but their eyes were open to evil from then on. So, we populated the earth. Lots of stuff happened, and eventually this God sent His son to the Earth to literally die for all those sins that came from knowing evil, so we wouldn't have to. After He died, He arose and went back to heaven. All that's to it is to accept that God is indeed real and the Lord of your life, and from then on live for Him until you die. This is such a simple concept, and even if it is a lot to swallow, it makes sense and it's cool. Faith is the part that comes in to mold it all together and make it real in your life. So, what I'm trying to say is, read up this summary and think about it. You've got nothing to lose by believing it, only things to gain. And how much cooler is that to believe in this "story", have a God that loves and cares for you, even sent his son to die for you, and at the end of your life you get to go live in a mansion, walk on streets of gold and hang out with Him. Compared to an atheism's outlook on life, I would say this looks like the ultimate way to live. Think about it.

Faith is the evidence of things not seen. This evidence suits me just fine. And if you think that logic explains what you think to be truth, think again. There is no evidence (eye witness account) for anything you might think as true. All we know today with all our science, is strictly conjecture. But what is written of in the bible is claimed to be eye witness account. So who should we believe? Eye witness or conjecture?

Faith is not unreliable only the way you use it. I have faith the sun will come up. I have the faith that people will always find evil in everything including ice cream.

Not really. If you can tell me how the faithful of Amen (Atum) put together "millions" of stone blocks weighing tons one on top of the other to build the Pyramids in Egypt, I'll agree that faith is "illogical" and achieves nothing with a "foundation." Fair enough?...
