It would depend on what you are eating....turkey has chemicals that make you sleepy...bread and starches will react with your blood sugar, insulin and glucagon. That could signal diabeties or insulin resistance.
If you mean that feeling you get after a big meal, and you start heading for the couch, I belive that would have a little more to do with the norepinephrine levels (hormones related to stress, fear, and endurance). Eating more slowly, at a leisurely pace, and stopping before you feel that full feeling would help. Drinking lots of water helps.
Fiber is more filling than any other foods, with lower caloric intake. Take note of how much fiber you are eating, especially if it encourages gas, causing bloating.
Hope you find something helpful in here :)

it's usually caused by two things:
consuming a high calorie meal after the body has not been feed for many hours. when blood sugar is low typically 4-5 hours after the last meal was consumed if a high calorie meal is consumed this elevates insulin levels very high to metabolize nutrients. when insulin levels spike this usually results in a hypoglycemic state (low blood sugar) so you feel tired.
consuming a high carbohydrate meal that is low in proteins and fats. carbohydrates are digested and metabolized rapidly when ingested very rapidly. this again causes blood sugar to rise rapidly with a corresponding increase in insulin. if insulin rises to high it spikes causing a hypoglycemic state.
* eating small meals that are balanced with sufficient protein and carbs prevents this. eating high fiber carbs also prevents this. consuming carbohydrates with a little bit of fats also lowers the glycemic effect of a high carb meal. eating every 3-4 also helps to prevent this

Your body has to work harder to digest the food, so you get tired.
