ok i have this retainer called a biobloc. it locks my upper and lower jaws together (its removable) and its suppoused to help close my open bite. my orthodontist recently bent a few wires into a "fence" to test the theory that my tounge was keeping my bite open. that was about 4 weeks ago. but this weekend my tounge started to get really sore on the very tip. whenever it bumped one of the wires a huge pain would shoot through my mouth. i tried to find another spot to rest my tounge, like the back of my teeth as the ortho told me to... but theres wires behind my teeth and it still hurts. ive left my retainer out for 2 days but the pain isint easing... it still hurts SOOOO much and its painful to eat and to talk. can someone please suggest something that can help ease my pain??? PLEASE ITS DRIVING MY CRAZY!!! I BEG YOU PLEASE HELP ME

Ah, pain! Mouth wax works great. Ask your orthodontist for some! I had braces that cut up my mouth and wx saved my life :) eventually you'll get a callus on the end of your toungue, but I know how painful and just plain irratating wires can be!! Make sure you really brush well after drinking soda or eating sugary things or you could get a sore, and open mouth sores are painful... eat things like soup (not tomato soup, that will BURN), I don't suggest jell-o but bread products are nice. Really pay attention when you're chewing, though a swollen toungue is easier to bite.

get better and know it will all be worth it some day!

Not sure if I understand what you're saying...but the drug store's here carry a wax that you can put on the wires to prevent them from causing pain like your describing. It's usually located near the toothpase and dental floss...just a small, flat plastic container. If you use the wax to prevent the friction, then you can take some tylenol or advil to alleviate the pain in your tongue.

the best and smartest thing you can do is get in touch with your doctor and ask him. He should be the only person to answer your questions. Call him now.

Please get in touch with your orthodontist to let them know what is going on. An adjustment could be needed here.
