The crime would probably be embezzlement, if he was trusted with the money/property.
He could be charged with conspiracy to commit larceny.
Sentencing depends upon the value of the items stolen, and the jurisdiction where the crime took place.
Go to www.findlaw.com for possible sentencing options.

Well, he's going to be fired. It depends on what they've been stealing. If it value is over 200 dollars, yes there is a very good chance your friend will be going to prison. For a first offense he might get probation and restitution. If he has a previous record 2-5 years seems about the going rate. Get a lawyer, DO NOT LET A PUBLIC DEFENDER REPRESENT YOUR FRIEND. No offense to them but they are overworked and under paid. You do not want your life in their hands. Good Luck.

I know you need a good answer, but we need to know what the value of the items stolen and the criminal record of the thief.
If someone stole $100 worth of lightbulbs and has no record there would be no jail time. If they had an extensive record for similar offences they may get something like 30 days. It really varies.

One thing the others didn't mention - if it is a theft from an interstate shipment - it's a Federal offence. And that, my frind, can land her in jail doing some HARD time.

You get fired, maybe they wont go to jail if they pay back all the money they stole, like if they talk to their boss really polite and apologetic maybe they wont press charges, but that probbaly be on the condition they pay all the money back. They should defintely talk to their boss and try to negotiate with them, they may rather get their money back then having to pay a lawyer and not get their money back.

That would depend on what they stole and for how long they had been doing it. If it's over $500.00 they're probably looking at light sentences but, anything over that will carry a stiffer sentence plus damages. Either way you look at it they're screwed

It all depends on what was taken, and the value, plus criminal background if any.
