It has been a while but I use to work for Pfizer when Cephalexin (Keflex) was introduced by Eli Lilly as the 1st break through cephalosporin antibiotic and we had trouble combating Keflex effectiveness. It was and is effective against URI caused by streptococcus, GTI by E.Coli and a huge seller for the treatment of otitis Media (ear infections) in kids when it was introducted in late 1978-79 regarding your question about your dosage level it is not typical but within acceptable limits...depending on your diagnosis.

If it was for URI, GTI and E.Coli the dosage would be 250mg QID (4 x a day or just 1000mg). For cystitis the dosage is 500mg bid (2 a day or1000mg). Nothing near 1500mg for you body weight but you may have a devastating disease. Me? I'd get a second opinion and move on from there. My courses in chemistry & pharmacologhy were a long time ago in college and graduate school were many yearys ago.

Cephalexin is a cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria such as pneumonia and bone, ear, skin, and urinary tract infections. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.

Cephalexin comes as a capsule, tablet, and liquid to take by mouth. It is usually taken every 6 hours (four times a day) or every 12 hours (twice a day) for 7-10 days. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take cephalexin exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

The capsules and tablets should be swallowed whole and taken with a full glass of water.

Continue to take cephalexin even if you feel well. Do not stop taking cephalexin without talking to your doctor.

The dosage sounds right, I weigh 140 and thats what I took
for pneumonia, get better soon.

Cephalexin (Keflex) is the oldest of the oral cephalosporins, having been on the market for thirty years or so. Five hundred milligrams four times a day is a common dosage, but even larger dosages aren't likely to do much harm except perhaps some diarrhea, which can occur at smaller doses as well.
