Nope. Not true. It does have trace amounts of mercury in it, which in large quantities is harmful, but it is so trace that you would literally have to eat dozens of cans of tuna fish a day to harm yourself. I doubt you are eating THAT much tuna, are you? That said, The Food and Drug Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency say that women of childbearing age, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and young children should eat no more than 6 ounces of tuna steak or canned white albacore tuna per week. Regular light tuna, however, is almost perfectly safe for anyone.

I used to give my cat tuna juice all the time -- he absolutely LOVED it! Then he kept getting UTIs... The vet said that the juice in the tuna has a lot of ground up fish bones in it, and though they don't bother humans they played hell on his urinary system - kept developing stones. I've heard that female cats aren't as affected by it, but you might want to keep an eye on it.

I think there's nothing bad in tuna fish per se. What makes it complicated is the fact that you ate canned tuna fish. Generally, it's not advisable to always eat canned goods.

Tuna is not bad for you if you eat it in moderation. It contains mercury, so it should be eaten very sparingly by young children and women who are pregnant or of child bearing age.
