A military ball is indeed a formal occasion. That does mean heels, hair, make-up, and a nice dress. You don't have to go overboard with these things however, just so long as you are making an effort to look a little extra nice. Think along the lines of "very nice restraunt" or "prom" and you won't be too far off. This is JROTC, not the real deal so don't worry too much.

Formal dress, think something like a prom. A ball is just another term for prom, they basically means the same thing. Don't be nervous about something like this, it's just another dance that is more formal. Dress up in a way that you like and in the same time remember this event is formal, meaning prom like dresses and what not.

JROTC: is this some high school event? A military ball is like the military version of a high school prom. A woman would do her hair and wear a dress (nothing skanky though) for a formal event.

Don't worry, this is a formal occasion but relax, he will be more nervous than you. This is equivalent to a Junior Ball or Senior ball at high school. remember its a ball so you will dancing so sensible shoes are a must.

Good Luck and enjoy the night

I went to an NJROTC ball on 27 January 2007, and it was soo much fun. Even though I went alone, I still found all of my friends to hang out with. I just wore a nice formal dress, and kept my hair down. and I didn't wear ALOT of makeup.. because I actually don't like wearing it that much..

Tell the guy that you want to make sure you are dress appropriately. See if you can talk to the girlfriend of a more senior member who has been to one before. Make sure it's someone he trusts. I think if you tell the guy you want to look right he will appreciate it and it will help you communicate with him in general - he wouldn't have asked you if he didn't like you so don't be nervous. Oh and have fun.

It's referred to as a "Military Ball". Think of it as the prom except the guys wear a white dress shirt and bow tie underneath the uniform jacket.

Think "prom".

The presence of Marine or Army full dress uniforms will make it difficult for you to overdress.

Treat the event like the prom. Except don't buy your date a bootineer. He can't wear it. Relax and have fun.
