all the solders especially front line grunts, observed "Saigon warriors" having the least risk of combat living the good live of occupation...they encountered south Vietnamese males by the thousands that were not fighting ...corruption abound in the private contractors.....generals and field grade officers living in villas...if these people were not fighting, then the morale problem goes to the front line wherein "why should i get my asss shot" so officers saw that if they ordered a incursion by these "drafted grunts" whey well chose not to be cannon fodder for the south vienmense elite and the officer core... it appears to be happening in Iraq today with over a 100,000 Private contractors make 100 grand+ and the civilian Iraq's are not interested in a country other than two fractions of Muslims..

It was simply a question of "AM I DOING THE RIGHT THING"? Some was right and some was WRONG and the ones that came back "TOGETHER" found a way to do the RIGHT THING and avoid the Wrong. It's amazing how bad those radio's were....

The corruption was EVERYWHERE as it is in Iraq and it is HARD to get down while one stays focused upon the misson at hand.

The "grunts", BLESS THEM simply lacked the leadership and training to focus and got mentally wrapped up in the periferal issues.

You also learned VERY quickly to NEVER turn your back on a SVA in the SH** because they might just turn on you to save their A**

To hit a target the permission of the Provincial Mayor was REQUIRED! Money passed and you humped 2 days to find them GONE!

The same is going on in Iraq in SPADES! The vast majority of troops deployed had and have NO idea what they are up against and do NOT have the proper training to get past the BS

Mostly, they couldn't identify the enemy. Most of the fighters dressed like everybody else and lived in the villages like everyone else.

After years and years of useless involvement in an illegal war, watching their buddies die by the thousands, watching innocent civilians die and seeing no end in sight, they got "touchy".

Same thing is happening in Iraq - can't identify the enemy, no end in sight, can't define "victory", don't get enough time at home and away from the battlefield. If we leave them over there long enough, they will start fragging each other...

They need to come home. They have seen too much, done too much, been in danger too long. You must understand that what they are most interested in is staying alive. You can't expect a human being to be in situations that they are in - for long periods of time with no relif - without snapping.

Thanks, Bushie boy....

It's an effort to deflect responsibility for the "defeat" from where it truly belongs: Congress generally, and Robert MacNamara specifically.

Where do you get that from? "SOLDIERS SPENT TOO MUCH TIME FIGHTING WITHIN THEMSELVES..."? I've never heard that.
