Basically because George Bush is an oil man, him and his whole family have made their millions on oil.
I am not a fan of either the Democrats or Republicians, so i'm not just picking on George Bush, but
Former president Jimmy Carter started a lot of programs and tax incentives for solar and wind power, but when Ronald Regan came into office, with George Bush Sr as VP, all of those programs were eliminated.
There's billions of dollars in oil, and no money for big business in free energy like wind and solar. it all comes down to money.
The oil, gas and electric companies would loose billions if every home and business had solar and wind power.
Personally I think we slhould all have solar panels on our roofs and wind turbines in our back yards, but the same environmental wackos that complain about global warming would complain about the wind turbines and solar panels.
When the oil is all finally sucked out of the ground, don't worry, the big businesses will come up with some other way to screw up the planet and make plenty of money, and never let us get free energy.

I can not believe the answers given by some of the responders who talk about oil companies and the government... where is the cave they've come out of? Many, many years ago it became difficult for rail systems to exist in this country due to the regulations and litigations by those who don't understand that a train can't stop as fast as a car.
So the infrastructure that this great country relied on so heavily, is going he way of the dinosaur.
Without rails to run on, and a place to safely lay the rails, high speed train travel in this country will likely never happen.
Not even Disney has ventured off of their oun property with a high speed train. As far as the energy goes... it takes a tremendous amount of energy to power the electromagnets that are used to move anything. And where does this power come from?... burning fossil fuels for the most part in this country and it's certainly not free. Nuclear power followed the demise of the railroads, unfortunately. The only energy sources that are free are wind, solar, and geothermal. The drawback with these is the expense of collecting enough to do anything productive with. There are many self-sufficient farmsteads for example, that are not connected to the public power grid, and in fact, sell to it. Sources for researching this subject are very easy to find. It's obvious that you have a computer... put it to work for you!
