I noticed that 'love' was never mentioned, as far as I recall, in the sermons of the church I previously attended. Lots of good stuff, but never love. This seemed to me to be a strange blind spot. What is your opinion please?

Don't follow the Church, nor their preachers, you will find that most of them don't really teach what is inside the Bible, therefore you should read it yourself.............

That is strange, isn't it, since Christ's clear instructions were that we were to love one another. When I was a church-goer, I heard a lot of sermons of condemnation, but very few about love.

Most of the emotions are used by religion to gain and keep converts. They use hope in the promises of reward in Heaven, fear in the threat of eternity in Hell, pity in what some people ages ago did to their pet prophet, shame in not following impossible lists of rules, and generic love in the group bonding that goes on in the church. They also exploit love of babies around Christmas as they tell stories about "baby Jesus". Children are indoctrinated at a young age and are emotionally bonded to religion as they grow up.

In my opinion, "love" and all of the other emotions are used because of one tool they lack... real evidence. In my opinion, it is used too much and has caused much harm in the world.

The world will be better off when it overcomes religious superstition.

I recently attened a Lutheran church it was preached there and it is also preached in the church i belong to. It's the people in the church that have to chose to follow that teaching.

I always heard about love at church, but I don't think it could ever be talked about too much.

They can mention it all they want. It's the practice of it that is rare in a church.

You're right, love is very important. "...and the greatest of these is love..." It's in John somewhere, I'm not sure where. I think that's what's missing here.
