I am installing a cd player into a 95 grand prix se. I have to hardwire the cd player in as the factory harness was cut off. I have all the power hooked up correctly, but I have no sound from my speakers. I got sound to come out of the speakers one time by switching the headlights on and off a few times, but that blew a fuse. Any suggestions.

no I am using the black ground from the car as my ground for my radio. I've even wired the radio ground direct to the chassis and still had the same problem

the fust that keeps blowing is the 15amp cigar lighter fuse. it even blows when I have nothing hooked up, all wires have empty, tape covered ends

Would I have to check every wire under the dash or could I just run a wire from the battery direct to the cd player and just use the chassis as ground?

If you don't know the speaker colors you can simple take a 9 volt battery (with your car battery disconnected) to all the wires in the dash and when you hear a tone... mark what wires they are and hook them up. This method does not work if you have a factory amp.... but being an SE i don't think you have one.

As for your fuse blowing.... never i repeat never put a bigger fuse in because one keeps blowing!... those fuses are to protect the wire from burning up.... as already stated you probably have a short some where. Your fuse keeps blowing because the bare wire is touching metal.

Did you pull on it a little too hard? If it was my car I would simply look for a different power source.

Good Luck

It kind of sounds like you may have one of the illumination wires hooked up as a speaker wire. Check the brown and gray wires, and make sure what you're using for speaker wires are really speaker wires. As for the cig lighter fuse, that's most likely the same one that provides constant radio power; if it's blowing with nothing attached to it and is taped off, then there must be a short on the factory wiring. You may need to find a different source for constant radio power.

often GM will catch as much as you with a notification by way of the mail as quickly as the identify is processed which includes your call & handle. The used automobile dealership technically doesnt would desire to stay with those regulations of a keep in mind like a GM dealership would would desire to. next, it would remember on your VIN to boot on the grounds that not all 2002 Grand Prix's are lined in this marketing campaign. Yours would desire to not fall interior the VIN breakpoint & not want this fix. you are able to merely anticipate the letter back into the mail or in case you havent gotten one yet, it would desire to intend yours isnt on the checklist that desires it executed. The VIN breakpoint is 2F100018 --- 2F293183. So if your final 8 digits of the VI?N doesnt fall in between those 2 numbers, it ability yours doesnt want it nor will GM or the dealership exchange that yet, you're able to desire to bypass get your oil exchange at a GM dealership & they are assume to look up any open campaigns on the automobile while they write it up & if any are open, they are assume to enable you recognize that it has an OPEN keep in mind & it would be repaired while your waiting to have it executed or if areas are obtainable which in the event that they arent, they'd would desire to get them organized & have you ever come back to have it executed. I didnt see a shrink off date on it like some have. often risk-free practices CAMPAIGNS, there is not any time shrink on. what's your final 8 digits of the VIN??
