praying to anyone else then God, is called polytheism. When you need help you should call out to God, for God is most merciful oft forgiving

We do not worship Mary. We ask her to pray for us, just like you would ask a friend or family member to pray for you..You must have forgotten Mary is the Mother of God.

Do Catholics worship the Mary? No!!! To worship someone is to acknowledge that the one who is worshiped is divine, is God. Sometimes we can confuse cultural gestures of reverence for gestures of worship. In doing so, we often judge not as God does, by what is in the heart, but rather by appearances (see Jn 8:15, Is 11:3).
God honored her above all creatures by making her the mother of His Son. In honoring Mary, we are following the example of God Himself. Mary's special privileges were given to her by God, not man.
God bless,

Let me start off by saying that I'm not Catholic. Catholics do not worship Mary. Check source. Catholics ask Mary to pray to Jesus for them. She is interceding, kind of in the way a pastor might pray for you or me. Even in the Rosary they ask Mary to "Pray for us sinners." And they think she's quite good at that.

Comment on some of the answers..... (that they ask Mary to pray for them)....then why not just pray directly to God? Jesus never taught his followers to pray to Mary. In fact Jesus showed us the model pray (how we should pray and it's directly to God) in Matthew 6: 9-13 and no where it said that we need to have Mary pray for us. I mean, how can the prayer of the Hail Marys on the Rosary (repitioun and memorized) bring me any closer to God? Didn't Jesus himself say in Matthew 6:7 when praying, do not say the same things over and over again...
We may not be worshipping Mary. We may just be using her as the channel to get through God but wouldn't that be contradicting the very teaching of Jesus Christ that no one gets throught the Father, except throught him?

Hiya,
Catholic here.
Catholics do not worship Mary. We ask her to pray for us the same as you would ask any human to pray for you.
"Pray for us sinners. Now and at the hour of our death."
We keep images of Jesus, Mary and other saints around the same way you might keep images of your family around.
Jesus said you cannot serve both God and mammon. Mammon is the Hebrew word for weath. Jesus also said it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to attain heaven.
Yet we have a lot of very wealthy Christian leaders who teach their congregations that you only "know" you are saved when you become wealthy.

We do not worship Mary. When people call out for help who better to ask than the mother. The Hail Mary is a prayer of asking for her intervention, not one of putting her above God and Jesus.

Catholics do not pray to St. Mary in the same way we pray to God.We ask her to pray for us just as you would ask anyone else because she is part of the Communion of Saints (Church Triumphant, Suffering and Militant) in the Church Triumphant. She is not an idol nor is she treated as one. I am a Catholic priest and I have never met anyone who prays to Mary except to ask her to pray for us out of our love and that she show her love by praying for us. The sense that the word "pray " is used in relation to St. Mary is to ask and in doing so it does not detract from our love or devotion of God.

Why are you so ignorant? Catholics don't worship Mary. How would you know anyway? Do you have some sort of mind-reading device?

Constantine found that with the Roman Empire being so vast, expansive, and diverse – not everyone would agree to forsake their religious beliefs and instead embrace Christianity. So, Constantine allowed, and even promoted, the “Christianization” of pagan beliefs. Completely pagan and utterly unbiblical beliefs were given new “Christian” identities. Mary is one clear example
The Cult of Isis, an Egyptian mother-goddess religion, was absorbed into Christianity by replacing Isis with Mary. Many of the titles that were used for Isis, such as “Queen of Heaven,” “Mother of God,” and “theotokos” (God-bearer) were attached to Mary. Mary was given an exalted role in the Christian faith, far beyond what the Bible ascribes to her, in order to attract Isis worshippers to a faith they would not otherwise embrace. Many temples to Isis were, in fact, converted into temples dedicated to Mary. The first clear hints of Catholic Mariology occur in the writings of Origen, who lived in Alexandria, Egypt, which happened to be the focal point of Isis worship.
