These are the two options we have for teaching our children about the theoretical origin of life. Evolution is an observable fact but, as the logically challenged people keep reminding us, it is still "just a theory" but only because of some scientific terminology. So here we have something that can be proved being called a theory but the alternative, that requires faith without evidence and cannot possibly be proved isn't called a theory. What gives?

Perhaps it is because with any religious idea it is never called a theory but rather a fact. Also intelligent design can not change EVER! If it changes EVER then it is not perfect so it can't be of God!
Thus they can get hung by their own arrogance!

Creationsists actually show how they do not understand what a theory is when they attack the word theory as if it is pure speculation.

Science nearly never terms anything a fact. That is because any idea in science is subject to change if evidence is presented that proves an old theory wrong.
Religion never changes no matter what evidence is presented. Change in religion is akin to heresy!

Clearly they ignore the fact that we live in an ever changing universe! and ever changing world with ever changing cultures!
Change is at the core of what we are!

There is no direct evidence for Intelligent Design, so it isn't a scientific theory, nor is it a hypothesis. There are no experiments that can be performed to illuminate the processes behind Intelligent Design. There are no observations of instances of Intelligent Design.

Intelligent Design is a conjecture or speculation. You may call it "The Conjecture of Intelligent Design" if you wish.

I wouldn't call it a Theory (ID), I would call it a hypothesis - why? Because a hypothesis can be formed without any facts or data what so ever.

As for the reason Evolution is a theory, is because a Law is unavoidable. To give you an idea how hard in science this is, even Gravity is no longer a law (was, but is now a Theory), due to the postulates of A. Einstein.

Because Intelligent Design is not a theory. In fact, it's not science. It's religion and philosophy.

That doesn't mean that there ISN'T divine intelligence behind all that we see. It just means that Intelligent Design is philosophy.

well basically intelligent design is based around belief. Science is based around knowledge. Seeing as the two are on opposite ends of the spectrum you cant have a faith based theory...its either unproved baseless faith or a conclusion drawn from careful analysis of indisputable data.

good one I want to see what people have to say......

A theory is defined by it ability to predict or explain.. theories also have to be testable and generalizable.

intelligent Design is a product of faith and not science... Only scientific things can theories not blind faith one where you can't prove anything.....

Dover Trial put an end to the discussion of weather Intelligent Design is a Science or not and the Judge said its not so therefore It is not a theory but a faith..

Because theories require sufficient evidence based on observation and experimentation. "Intelligent Design" has been unable to do either.

It should be called the faith of intelligent design because it requires faith to believe its true.

ID isn't a theory because a theory is a reasonable explanation of the facts or a testable hypothesis. Intelligent design has no facts and no hypothesis, so it's what you would call, a load of crap.

I have always heard it called "the theory of intelligent design".

No one will ever "prove" anything about the origins of the earth. any good science text will tell you that science does not "prove" anything.
