Do not forget Bruce Lee was an actor as well, and would still be one if he were alive

I know they were trained in Wu Shu and are not active "fighters" but they know more than one style. Would anyone here be willing to fight them, no rules?

effective yes....what these actors/martial artists do is do coreography with what they know. would they be able to defend themselve....with out a doubt...would they be able to hold there own in the UFC or PRIDE......that would be a toss up because it's a whole different ball game in the ring.

Both Jet Li and Jackie Chan have openly admitted they are not fighters. Jet Li is in his 40s and Jackie in his 50's, so that's a problem too.

Even if they were fighters, they are both well past the age when most fighters are in their prime capacity.

From Jackie's wikipedia:
"He has also broken his left ankle so many times, he can no longer rely on it "

The question that is more important is why would you think that they ARE effective fighters, based on movies? Do you also think Brandon Routh was hired for his Superman Returns role because he was the best flyer and had the most powerful heat vision?

Edit: Go Hood! If I could rep you, I would.

It's widely known that...

Bruce Lee - was really a martial arts master who happened to impress TV people so much he became a TV star because he was so smart as well as being skilled in MA.

Jackie Chan - He started his career as a dancer, a form of art in Piking Opera. there was no 'martial' application of the art he began with and therefore has limited fighting capabilities. Not that he'd do bad in MMA he just doesn't have a history that would suggest that.

Jet Li - He started exactly the same as Jackie, however he later became a master at Wu Shu. Unfortunately for him, Wu Shu doesn't have many techniques that would be useful in a real fight. You don't see people doing cartwheel attacks or jumping off the cage or anything in UFC do you?

that sums it up in a general sense.

Those guys are humble fellows though, and they would surely not boast of their skills, but I am sure if an average man messed with them they could surely defend themselves. Look, just because you do not choose to fight professionally does not mean you can not throw down. Some people just do not like to fight and they would rather get paid way more for acting. I think any athletic person with the right training and mind set could be a capable fighter. Take me for example, train me since I was young and I could have been a profesional but that just not my thing, I like to play poker instead and my face is to pretty to get hit.

Chuck Norris would beat both of them. No competition

In all seriousness, at the stage they're in now, (and if Bruce Lee was still alive) they might have some trouble in a real fight. After all of the choreography and coordination, a real fight would be a shocker too them.

But, if they still fought, and sparred, this would be a different story. It all depends on how they balance their martial arts between acting, and fighting

How about because neither has fought.... and Jet Li does Wu Shu... which is martial arts ballet. They know how to make martial arts pretty.... in any MMA style event... it would get ugly.... and Bruce lee is one of the WORST things to happen to western martial arts.... or let me clarify that... what people THINK bruce lee is is the worst.... the guy was great when alive.... now all you nut riders have made him into something else.

I'm gonna go with the fact that Jakie Chan himself has said that while he's a great movie fighter he isn't much of a real fighter. I think he would know better than anyone.

People like to HATE, when they can't Relate. The fact that this question is out there, and the responses Your getting prove that. Who cares ? they are BOTH RICH, they fight off crowds not each other. JC can't even go to the MOVIES. JL can't go to the store. Bruce Lee had to have Body guards to keep people at bay. As they say " It's lonely at the TOP"

They are simply actors, even when they practice martial arts in real life.
Its like in tournaments, those guys that do amazing stunts, beautifull forms, triple kicks in the air, moving in a swifty yet strong way. Those guys most likely suck at fighting, and its simply logic, the more you practice for a form, the less you practice for a fight, and im telling you that by experience.
Of course there are lots of people who do both well, but thats not Jet Li and Jackie Chan's case.

Given ample time to train for a fight, I believe either of these two could win early on and keep training for tougher fights like everyone else does that moves up. They do have technique down. It comes down to who has the motivation, chin, and the heart after that....

As for Bruce Lee he would flat out kill you.

Because the fights in the movie seem so unrealistic in some parts. That might be the biggest reason, also most people have never ran across someone that has training. The fight in drunken bar room brawls and have no idea how easily they can get dusted.
