I found this on CNN from the Mayo Clinic:
A couple of approaches attempt to approximate water needs for the average, healthy adult living in a temperate climate.
* Replacement approach. The average urine output for adults is 1.5 liters a day. You lose close to an additional liter of water a day through breathing, sweating and bowel movements. Food usually accounts for 20 percent of your total fluid intake, so if you consume 2 liters of water or other beverages a day (a little more than 8 cups) along with your normal diet, you will typically replace the lost fluids.
* Dietary recommendations. The Institute of Medicine advises that men consume roughly 3.0 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day and women consume 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day.

More then everyday, all day. I drink about a gallon a day all year. I don't drink because I'm thirsty, I drink because I know how it works in the body and how much the body uses it. During my intense training for my last body building show I drank over 500 lbs of water in nine weeks. Counting the weight of the food I also ate I'm guessing close to 1000 lbs of intake of food and water and I still lost 15 lbs in that nine week period and that's not a strange fact, its normal.

Around 8 full glasses. But, everyone's body is slightly different and it also depends on how much you do or don't exercise. Just drink enough so that you don't feel thirsty, then stop. Just like with food.
Hope this helps!

8 glasses per day is recommended, but if you are overweight I read you should add a glass for every 20 pounds over the weight you are. Sorry I can't remember the source

As much as you can, without over hydrating yourself. Have you ever heard of anyone dying from drinking too much water, I have. That can be your next question.
