Of course, not happy that anyone of any religion dies in war, but happy that Wiccans who die fighting for religious freedom, and their families, can have it.

If that's what you believe in, and this religion is older than most, and you die serving this country, you have that right.

EDIT - anyone from the CFSM die yet? That would be a cool headstone...

Hurah!! Wicca is a religon that has been around longer than many other more "acceptedl" religions. Wiccans have as much right to have a symobol that they believe in placed on their memorial stones as Christians do a cross. If the country was as populated with Wiccans as there are Christians now and the Christians were a minority how would they feel if they were told they couldnt Have angels or crosses on their tombstones. This country was originally formed by people wanting religous freedom so its about time that the government recognize the rights of nonchristian soldiers. The horror flicks have given the pentacale such a bad rep that people see one and flip out and automatically think devil worshiper. i do somewhat worry that some disrespectful people will vandalize the head stones though. Blessed Be

The pentacle is definitely one among the symbols of Wicca. it extremely is a valid faith. It replaced into lined onto the religious order in 1984 so they might desire to no longer have the capacity to disclaim its use yet in spite of this it extremely is the federal government and the p.c.. and decide which rights we are able to have and which they do unlike and till the individuals upward thrust up they're going to proceed to realize this **If the followers could start to lead the leaders could might desire to start following

This whole situation ticked me off. As you point out, Wiccans are fighting in the Military for the same reasons others are... to protect our Freedoms. And one is Freedom of Religion. They allow Wiccan clergy into the Military, but then our own Gov't claims they don't want to recognize it in order for those who have lost their lives can have their personal religious symbol. Was very hypocritical. This should have never been denied to begin with. But I am very glad to see they finally pulled their heads out of their backsides and allow it.

About time.
Don't you just love how they had to add that last part "Variations of the pentacle not accepted by Wiccans have been used in horror movies as a sign of the devil.". What the hell does that have to do with anything?

I really don't think any religious marker should be printed on a soldier's grave (not a cross, star of david, pentacle, etc.) if that soldier is buried by the State. If the soldier's family or the soldier themselves make arrangements for a privately conducted funeral (e.g. off government land, at private expense) then they have absolute freedom, as they should.

The government should not provide subsidy or succor for the religious leanings of the soldier. If one's body in death is so important to one, one should make appropriate arrangements while one can.

If a soldier wishes to be buried on State land, then that soldier should accept the honorific, yet entirely secular, nature of that burial. State burial MUST be secular. Every step away from this is a step away from true religious freedom.

That is very happy news. I'm glad to see that the military isn't going to discriminate against the soldiers beliefs.

This is wonderful news. A lot of people have been fighting for a long time to make it happen.

I am very happy. I felt it was very wrong for them to die for our freedoms and then not allowed to have a symbol of their beliefs on their graves.
