Think I'll go with a respectful, legitimate answer.

As far as I know (and I have an extensive library on this topic, and what I don't own I'll more often than not read), there aren't any decent books that deal specifically with this topic. What you will find are books that talk about the ways those that crossed over use to communicate with their loved ones still here. Since dreams are the most common method, it is touched upon in all the major books that deal with communicating with the dead.

The one's that specifically come to mind are the non-fiction ones by John Edward, most of those by Sylvia Browne (I like her books more than her Mediumship to be very honest lol), and what I consider MUST READs for anyone interested in this, the early books by George Anderson--specifically "We Don't Die," and "We are not Forgotten." Most if not all of the above should be available in your library, if you don't feel like buying them. My suggestion would be to go to the library, and when in that section see what else they have, browse and take out ones that look interesting. "Hello from Heaven" is also probably worth reading. It's an older book that is a compilation of ADC (after death communications), many of which are dreams. You might want to check their web site at http://www.after-death.com/. I am not a fan of the woman who runs it (way too big an ego for this topic IMHO), but it is truthfully a very good resource. So I feel ok sending you with a warning label lol. The James Van Praagh one's are ok (he also has a large web site you might want to poke through), but I don't think they offer anything new/better. I think Suzanne Northrup's first book touched on this too (another big web forum to poke at if interested). Ditto my feeling, but if you spot these in the library, I'd say why not. But not sure there is enough, if my memory serves, to suggest paying for those.

I'll poke through my books later and see if there is anything that isn't coming to mind. If you ask this in another year, I might have be able to recommend a book I wrote on the topic, but haven't had the guts to try to get published yet lol.

I will tell you how I describe the difference in a communication dream vs a regular dream about a loved one that died (since both happen). To me the best way to tell the difference is; when you wake up do you remember it clearly, in the way you would a real event even as time passes (as most regular dreams fade nearly instantly). Did you retain most or likely all of your senses? In visitation dreams you can feel, touch, smell, see colors and so on. I know I never have all my senses in basic dreams. Another common thing is often you are exausted when you wake up from one of these, and don't feel like you had a night of sleep. Those are the biggies. There are more but not sure if this is TMI or not.

Hope this helps!

ETA: Took me forever to dig this up in my bookmarks, but after seeing the post after mine I had to. For YEARS there has been a raging debate on whether Houdini did or didn't come through (since his goal was to disprove mediumship). This is the clearest article I read on it, and saved it, since it's far more complicated than what the post says as you'll see;
http://www.survivalafterdeath.org/articles/ford/houdini.htm

As for me, you can read all these things till the cows come home. I personally never believed until it was proven to me beyond my healthy but open minded skepticism.

nicely actual, the ego isn't what controls the exhilaration function. Your recommendations is divided into 3 issues: The Ego The identity The great Ego The ego, even with customary perception is actual the only factor protecting your recommendations balanced, and additionally you from being an entire self based prick, or a selfless (walked throughout) individual. The identity is actual the factor it extremely is all approximately what pleases you, and your organic tendencies. it may be the identity it extremely is in action while somebody compliments you. The great ego is what's in action once you opt to help others. So, it extremely is the factor that shall we you walk that little previous lady around the line. anyhow, with that out of ways, no, i do no longer trust that throughout any respect. it incredibly is merely organic for somebody to be extremely joyful while the two the identity and the finished ego are further right into a appropriate stability.

Harry Houdini (the famous magician) spent years trying to communicate with his mother, Cecilia Weiss, who passed over in 1913. He spent so much time in fact that he eventually became a psychic debunker exposing the fraudulent spiritualists who preyed upon grieving families. He NEVER successfully acheived his goal of communicating with the "other side."

Prior to his untimely death in 1926, Houdini made a secret pact with Bess, his wife of thirty-two years. They made a ten word code which only each of them knew. Each would try their best to communicate with the other once they passed over. The correct code would act as proof that it was really them coming through from the other side. For ten (10) years Mrs. Houdini offered a $10,000 reward for anyone, psychic or layman, who could communicate with Harry. She visited psychics from around the world in an attempt to communicate with him. Not a single psychic could produce the secret code, although almost all of them claimed to have communicated with Houdini himself on the other side. In her last seance in 1936, she tried one final time to reach Harry. After this final failure, Bess made this little speech, "I do not think that Harry will come back to me, or anyone. I think the dead don't speak. I now regretfully turn out the light. This is the end, Harry, good night!" She then blew out the candle that she had lit after his death and that had been buring for him for ten years.

In 1937, Mrs. Houdini, sent out a final letter to the media, the general public and to those psychics who participated saying, "Since the failure of the ten year test, it is my opinion that all concerned have struck a mighty worldwide blow at superstition."

If you are dreaming about communication with a deceased person, I would not read a book, but rather go talk to a Catholic priest.

Whenever you experience any kind of contact from something "other worldly" be cautious and test the spirit.

It might be from God or Heaven....but it could just as likely be from Hell....or a demon.

The Bible that says the dead don't know anything, neither do they return to their home any more neither can they praise the Lord any more...It is still ole Lucifer trying to continue the lie that we shall not die when God clearly said the soul that sinneth it shall die. Satan and his evil angels take the form of the deceased to cause you to believe the lie...Mmm
