We should fly our flags 1/2 mast when a solider dies. They are heroes defending our Country and its freedoms.
What do you think?
""Wilt suggested that flags should fly at half-staff on the base where the fallen service member was working and in the states where they hail from. He said some states do this, but not all of them.""

I have a problem with war, and all these people who allegedly GAVE their lives for the cause. I doubt if anyone actually GAVE anything. They joined up for the fun of battle, and the uniform, and when they went into combat, they assumed they would be OK. Perhaps they didn't realise that the bullets from the "other side" would be real?
In most of the major wars, if they didn't go "over the top" or they refused to fight...they would get shot by their own officers. Between a rock and a hard place? I don't think that qualifies for the word GAVE.
And why don't we fly the flags at half mast in every town where a Road Death occurs.? Hundreds of thousands more people are killed on our roads every day, and no-one give a sh**
Flyhing flags at half mast would just depress our troops, and if they went to work every day, seeing ANOTHER fallen comrade commemorated, perhas they would get the opinion that this "soldiering "thing was not a smart occupation? Maybe they wouldn't WANT to go to War? We couldn't have that, now could we?

Should the media coverage be the same for Iraq as it is for the VA tech shootings. You have a point the past week in iraq was much worse than many weeks before. In essence it was 7 straight days of VT happening there. The odd thing was no one really covered including Fox news instead deciding to cover the VT shootings reveal the video the shooter sent and have endless debate about gun conrtol.

Since there are people dying in the military every day (even in peace time, let alone durring a two-front war), flags would just be flown at half mast continuously. The gesture would lose it's meaning.

I think we should Honor those who died for the Flag of the United states.
I mean with all these anti-war protests going on were fighting for them so yes we should have the ALL the flags at Half-staff

The troops fighting in Iraq are already being honored. They are soldiers who signed up to go and fight a war, they need to quit their whining about not being praised enough to fight a war most of the country does not support, learn to leave good enough alone.
The students at VT were citizens and students, they did not ask to be murdered by some psycho and according to Bush, the war in Iraq was supposed to stop what happened at VT anyway, which is another terrorist attack on innocent Americans.

I think that it should be done. Service member that died in combat deserve this. Those students did nothing but get up that morning and go to class and it just happened that Cho decided to hit their classroom, but besides that, nothing more. A soldier gets up and does not know whether he will be alive once evening comes.

With all of the anti-war protests, and the issues with the Democratic rule going on, I think that people are starting to lose the fact that just because a soldier is fighting the war in Iraq or Afghanistan, it doens't neccessarily mean that he/she believes in the war. I personally do believe in the war, but thats just me. I think the people of the United States should remember, they don't have to support the war... but PLEASE support the Troops.
