Since the terrestrial variety wouldn't be surrounded by water, it's going to have to have a way to get the gametes together. In some plants the sperms still swim to the eggs in a thin layer of moisture (moss, fern). In others, the gametophyte is greatly reduced to ensure fertilization and the sporophyte is the dominant generation.
