I'm not a Vet but my husband is (now that hes home from Iraq) and he said you cant support them without supporting the war. Because its not possible, he said people only say that so they dont look like bad people that dont support our military. But if you dont support the war then obviously you dont support what the troops are doing therefore you dont honestly support the troops.

Supporting the troops IS possible without supporting the war. During the Viet Nam war the protesters made the mistake of blaming the soldiers for the governments mistakes. People learned from that. I support the troops, but as the Iraqis have said that they are going to be taking over security at the end of the year and most of the Iraqi people want us out of Iraq, I think the time for a phased withdrawal should begin after the first of the year. Again, it IS possible to support the troops and be against the war - your opinion doesn't rule here.
I am a US Vet, and I disagree with what you think. That doesn't mean I dishonor you - it only means that you seem to have a closed mind to someone else's opinion.
Also, this is an open forum - anyone can answer, not just who you dictate can answer.

I don't see any contradiction. There is a huge difference in supporting the needs of our soldiers and supporting the policies of the President of the United States. I am much more offended by a Commander in Chief who claims to support out troops, but sends them in harms way without sufficient body armor to get the job done. I have personally participated in more than a few fundraisers to get body armor for loved ones that were already over there and didn't have what they needed. I was very offended when I saw our Commander in Chief reading a picture book during 9-11, and then trying to link 9-11 to Iraq. There wasn't a single Iraqui on any of the three planes that went down.
It is indeed a very sad world when we go after Saddam Hussein instead of any of the real threats to National and World Security that flourish to this day. Why don't you put your training to good use and try to understand the Commander's intent! Maybe you can make the distinction then?

I'm a vet.
My wife's a vet.
Neither of us support Bush or the war...based on the fact that the war was pre-emptive in nature, and the reasons were based on fabrications. If Iraq was a real threat, if Iraq had helped plan 9-11, then that is a different story. But the WMD story was just that...a story. Bush should go to jail for that. Sad, he won't...but he should.
Now, what's this "support the troops" thing. What do you want me to say? Because I disagree with the reason for Iraq, that I shouldn't support the troops in their efforts? That makes no sense.
Of course, I support them. I also am for a drawdown of troop levels. I also support better care for our wounded soldiers, and more dignified processing of the ones who perished (unlike the former strategy of unloading the caskets like ordinary cargo from commercial flights). That policy wasn't changed until a father complained. How sad is that?
I also support sending them into battle with everything they need.
From what I understand...several Generals retired rather than fight the war the way Rumsfeld wanted to fight it. He wouldn't listen to the professionals.
Damn the torpedoes...I'm gonna go in fast and light, with no strategy past getting the statue of Saddam knocked down.
Well...more to say...hope it won't fall on deaf ears...so I will stop now.

well war is awful thing i dont think any one is really happy about going to war people have to die. my husband is in iraq i also want him to come home but im not a selfish person i am gratefull every day for any thing i can get i dont complain i know its his job. I am not a big political person for good reasons i think mabe if others understood this war better they would suport both
i see your point though its a lil contradictary to say im for the troops but not the war i feel liberals hide behind that too and tend to get out of hand and say some awful things. for me im just stuck in the middle on it all though.

so let me see if i have this straight.
you supposedly served in the armed forces, supposedly fighting for freedoms here at home.
and then you ask a question who you only want other vets to answer.
first, i'd say you are in the wrong forum and second, i'd say you have a rather incomplete understanding of american freedoms.
i support the troops 100%, the company i own give as much as we are able to make their lives more bearable.
i DO NOT SUPPORT THE WAR IN IRAQ!
let me know when we invade saudi arabia - that i can get behind...

I don't know how old you are, but you don't sound like you remember the lessons of the Vietnam War. I love the soldiers. They are like sons and daughters to me. I want to do all I can to make sure they are safe. I want them to come home.
This war is so wrong.
