i often here various theists refer to god as being perfect. but what exactly is perfect? you can't really say he's lived by the rules which he made. so it's faulty to say his actions are perfect. what exactly does it mean to say he's perfect?

How can you judge if anything is perfect? To do so you have to have some kind of criteria to judge it against.

For Example: I am sitting at my desk and in my mind my desk is perfect. It holds my computer just fine and gives me plenty of room to do what I need to. It has some scratches on it and its color is off, but who has authority to say whether those things are good or bad? One person can say the scratches are bad cuase the desk is no longer in mint condition, but another could say they are good because they give the desk "character" and show that it has been put to good use. See what I mean?

The terms "good," "bad," and "perfect" can only be used when there is a rule or law to judge from, but who gets to decide what is law?

The problem with judging God is if God exists he MADE AND PREDATES the law, which means he can probably unmake the law.

If God said not to kill, he existed before the law did, which means he might also have authority to reverse the law or break it when he see's fit. This is hypocrisy you might say, but remember, he existed before hypocrisy too. In fact, hypocrisy couldn't have existed until after him AND the law.

What this all means is that if God makes literally every rule then the rules are subject to him and he is not subject to them. If this is true and the laws and rules are subject to his will than he is perfect because there is nothing to which he can be compared and judged that has any authority. Therefore if God says he is perfect, whether we think it or not, he is.

He is 'perfect' because that's how he's described by the people who invented him. No matter what qualities or actions are ascribed to God, his believers will call it perfect.

Of course, all other gods, other than the one recognized by the believer, either don't exist are terribly imperfect.

It's pretty easy to be perfect when everything you do is proclaimed to be so - even if it's violent, hateful, or downright ridiculous.

Jeez sorry don't think you will be able to get a lot of logical explanations on this one, but we can can not contribute on fictional hypocrite's, it goes up to personal taste, nothing can be truly perfect in my mind. but even saying that i can not exclaim that i think ( a god ) could be or is perfect, coz i don't know them from a bar of soap and I'm not perfect so how could i even judge if my assumption that he is perfect is correct because my assumption is not perfect.

Everything about God makes Him perfect.

Deuteronomy 32:4
He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.

Your question used the word god with a little "g" If you meant God of which there is only one. The one outstanding quality that makes God perfect is.....perfection.

God is love. Literally. It is because of His love that we exist.
