It plays a part. Any credible scientist will tell you that a combination of reasons are to blame for obesity, and ALL of them will encourage a healthy diet and exercise.
I personally think that fast food restaurants like McDonald's are doing their part. They've changed their menus to include healthier choices. If people continue to buy the more unhealthy choices on the menu, that's on them.

Genetics may be a very small part of it, as some people's metabolisms burn calories quicker than others, but it's not the biggest problem. The reason people are bigger now than they were 50 years ago is because of not only fast food, but lifestyles are very different now. Years ago, people had to do much more physical labor in everyday life. Now, machines and computers are doing the majority of these chores. But, it's still no excuse. People have to take responsibility for there own fitness. I couldn't believe a commercial I saw about a week ago, talking about getting your kids outside to play. The slogan was something like "An hour a day for play". I turned to my husband and said "Oh, my gosh! Imagine, having to make your kids go outside and play!" I practically lived outside when I was a kid. If a kid stayed inside all day, everybody knew he had to be sick, because it was so unheard of! From sunup to sundown, until the street lights came on, I was outside playing tag, hide and seek, riding my bike, catching lightning bugs, turning cartwheels, the list goes on and on....Kids these days seem to prefer to sit and play video games. So, I say it's lifestyle, and bad eating habits, and a world that has forgotten how to just go outside and play, that has caused this country to become "fat". Sorry, there's no excuse for it.

I think I do belive the gene story because I was pretty much raised on candy and sweets and now as a grown up I work full time and my kids eat a lot of fast food. We are all skinny. My daughter is 12 and weighs 100lbs and is 5'6". I am size 4 and we can eat all we want. So I just don't get it. I think the tool is don't drink diet soda and stick to chicken not beef. Don't eat diet products and take vitamins. I love veggie and fruit and eat that most of the day. But hey sometimes you need a cookie and a coke.

Humans aren't predisposed to be fat. My mother and sisters are fat, and I'm skinny. My father was skinny (of course, he was an alcoholic, too, so that could be the reason), but my grandfather was overweight by the end of his life. Obesity comes from inactivity and overeating. I eat poorly, but I excercise regularly, hence I am skinny. Some people watch what they eat, and even though they don't do crap, they stay skinny. People who are fat need to step away from the multiple cheesecakes and find a physical activity, or stop whining about how they are discriminated against.

I believe that the TENDENCY to gain weight can be genetic. However that is only the tendency.
I am a little overweight and I know I have to work much harder to keep my weight down than some of my friends do. However I do not use that as an excuse. Lack of willpower and lifestyle has a lot to do with it.

genetics is utter nonsense , the reason people are fat are the same reason the people in power in Rome were fat , its because they didn't have to do anything but eat and lay around . Americans need to move about and stop eating to fill a void , then again I could care less who is fat or not .

I actually don't believe genetics are the blame. Every single member of my family are over weight but that is because we didn't eat healthy. I was chubby, actually probably more fat in my teenage years but once I gained control of my eating habits I lost the weight.

Genetics can give a person a predisposition for many things, but it is most definitely not a good excuse to "let your self go"..."I have bad genes" is a cop out.

yes, I agree, genetics sometimes plays a part, but not so much as people like to believe, unless liking Mac Donalds food comes in the genes as well...

in case you go with greater 'clean and tidy' issues to do, then you definately would desire to bathe different flooring, airborne dirt and dust and varnish, clean homestead windows, have a transformation around with fixtures, organize issues in a various way, variety via your kitchen etc Or some thing exciting, bypass out and save till finally you drop!
