Of course sex is important, otherwise the human race would die out!!!
Seriously, I do not feel sex is an important aspect of a relationship. However, partners can make it an important aspect of a relationship, sometimes to the point that their relationship is dependant on it. I believe this gets in the way of a relationship as the meaning of it is now sex, and basic communication is lost. In this case, then yes, sex is important to a relationship as it will cease without the sex.
But there are other ways, in terms of non-physical demonstration, that can be used to show how people feel for one another. Look at couples who are married but believed in celibacy. How did they 'cope' before they were married?
My personal opinion is that sex is not important and can get in the way of a good relationship due to the nature of its intimacy. However, it is a wonderful that should be enjoyed, but, I feel, only if the couple are very comfortable with one another and have an extremely strong relationship.

I think it gets in the way of a good relationship. I haved been married for almost 14 years and my husband is my very best friend and the best dad in the world to our daughter. However, I have not had sex with him for almost a year. It might even be longer than that!!! I love him more than anything else in the world (except for our daughter). But he is really understanding and accepts the fact that our sex life is over. I think that except for special occasions, we will not have sex but I hope that he continues to understand that this is not a priority in my life at the moment. I am 36 years old and hope that this is not the picture of the rest of my life. We both love each other dearly and I cannot imagine my life without him but sex is not high on our priorities. I hope that you have found / or will find someone who loves you just as much as my husband loves me and will accept his type of situation. It all changes when you have children!!!!

Sex is important, it is part of a good healthy relationship. It is the most intimate thing that you can do with someone and done well is one of the most pleasurable exeriences you can have. Getting to know each others bodies and what please one another is so intense and again intimate.
It is something that you should share with one another to show how much you can love each other. It should be the ultimate way of saying I love you............

Sex is just as much a part of healthy relationship as communication, trust, and intamacy. The key is to find the balance between these elements so that both you are your bf/gf can get the most out of the relationship.

Yes, its the best part of a relationship. There is no reason it should get in the way, unless you're having sex with other people too.

sex too soon gets in the way. if the relationship has been established for a long time, then it can make it better. trust is the key, do yo utrust the other person enough to let them inside you?
