I have over 3000 pictures that i have hooked up on an external HD. I want to be able to rename all of them, but im not sure i can. i sure there is a way through excel. does anyone know of such a way. thank you so much for all or any help.

IrfanView has a batch function that will either rename a load of image files or convert them to a different format (or both if you wanted).

Open the drive in windows explorer (I presume you are using windows XP

Get the all into the same directory on the external drive

Select them all

Right click the first one and rename it image(for example) and the rest should follow numerically
