WHAT MAKES YOU THINK SO????

3. God will slaughter everyone by killing one third with plagues, one third with famines, and one third with wars. If any somehow survive, he'll send "evil beasts" to devour them. Finally, after he's done killing, he "will be comforted." 5:11-17
4. God will decorate the land with the bones and dead bodies of those who worship a different god. 6:4-5
5. God makes his presence known by killing people with famine, disease, and war. 6:7-14

8. God promises again to slaughter everyone. He says that he will ignore them when they plead with him for mercy. 8:18
9. God sends a "man clothed with linen" to mark the foreheads of the men who will be saved. Apparently only men are considered good enough to keep, the others (unmarked men, "maids", little children, and women) are to be slaughtered. God says he'll "fill the courts with the slain" and will have pity on no one. 9:4-10
10. When you fall by the sword, you'll know that he is the Lord. 11:8-12
11. When God kills everyone in the city, then you'll know that he is the Lord. (Who else would be so cruel?) 12:15-16, 20
12. God gets mad at a wall and destroys it, along with those who worked on it. 13:14-15

20. God will set a fire in the southern kingdom that will devour everything and burn everyone. "And all flesh shall see that I the LORD have kindled it." 20:47-48

26. Two sisters were guilty of "committing whoredoms" by pressing their breasts and bruising "the teats of their virginity." As a punishment, one sister's nakedness was discovered, her children were taken from her, and she was killed by the sword. And the fate of the surviving sister was even worse: Her nose and ears were cut off, she was made to "pluck off" her own breasts, and then after being raped and mutilated, she is stoned to death. 23:1-49
27. God gets all excited about cooking with "scum" and human flesh, saying "kindle the fire, consume the flesh, and spice it well, and let the bones be burned." 24:3-14

36. God will punish Egypt and her allies by sending Nebuchadrezzar to "fill the land with the slain." Then he will make "the rivers dry," sell the land to "the wicked," make "the land waste," light fires, and kill all their young men with the sword. 30:4-26
37. "And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I have set a fire in Egypt." (The Divine Pyromaniac) 30:8, 30:14, 30:16
38. God will treat Pharaoh like a whale fished out of the sea. Every bird and beast in the world will feed upon him. 32:3-6
39. God will vex the hearts of many people, destroy entire nations, brandish his sword, kill animals, and cause floods. In this way people will come to know him (just before he kills them?). 32:9-15

41. Pharaoh and all his multitude, along with the uncircumcised, will be killed with the sword. 32:20-32

48. God will cause each man's sword to be against his brother; he will send disease and make it rain fire and brimstone. He says that by doing this he'll magnify and sanctify himself and let everyone know that he is the Lord. 38:21-23

It all has to do with two major themes: life for life and sacrifice. All the Old Testament stuff was a prelude to help the people get an idea of what it means for someone or something else actually pay the price for someone else's sins. The big difference from the Old and New Testament is that the animals in the Old Testament had no choices in giving themselves and in the New Testament Jesus had the choice and freely chose to give Himself for us. Don't get too hung up on all the blood stuff though. It is more about the loving sacrifice for sin that redeems (or buys us back) that counts. One of the most beautiful phrases written says, while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. In other words, He didn't wait for us to get our act together to pay the price and make the way for us.

blood sacrifice WAS a common theme, prior to the ultimate blood sacrifice made by Jesus. Why? Asking a why of God is senseless. Blood is serious. Blood is symbolic. Blood represents life, commitment, honor ---all that is good and important can be symbolized by blood. A blood sacrifice represented something to both God and to a more primitive man. Something that perhaps even man was incapable of understand consciously, but reacted to subconsciously.
The ultimate blood sacrifice of Jesus, symbolizes much more of an understanding of OURselves, and our understanding of God. It represents our growth from a primitive to a more enlightened being. It was a huge step.

I don’t know if its rather to keep him satiated, I’m sure he is pleased with those who serve him regardless but blood is the greatest connection to life. It connects generations to generations, and thus children to fathers, i.e. us being the children and God being our father. This is a good question for a pastor or spiritual advisor. Good question.

think of how vital blood is to living.... now think of what the purpose of sacraficing is..... what more important thing could one offer to a god than blood, blood being so important to any living creature.... so by offering something so precious you are making a true sacrafice to what ever god it is that the sacrafice is being made. so that is why the bible makes so much mention of blood sacrafices, alot of other ancient cultures also did that type of sacrafice as well. not just early christians, the mayans the incas, aztecs, just to name a few

I am a Christian and would like to know this too. That's one of the parts I hate about the bible, along with men being the ultimate ruler over women and animals.

I hope you don't think that He KEEPS requiring blood. That became unnecessary when Jesus died for our sins, WILLINGLY. He didn't have to. That's what His death was all about.
