How can it have been blasphemous? Jesus appears briefly in the film, preaching the sermon on the mount and that's it.
The humour in the film stems from Brian's being mistaken for a messiah (when, in reality, he's a 'very naughty boy').
The only bit which could be considered offensive is the last sequence, when the crucified people break into song. This was a classic case of the Pythons 'not being able to think of a way to end it' and someone suggesting the communal sing-song.
It's an irreverent end to a very funny film.

Life of Brian was not blasphemous - blasphemy is defined as an impious utterance or action concerning God. In other words, blasphemy is making fun of God. Life of Brian does not make fun of God - the Pythons were very careful to avoid doing this.
However...
It can be considered heretical. Heresy is defined as "opinion or doctrine at variance with the orthodox or accepted doctrine, esp. of a church or religious system". In other words, heresy is making fun of the church, and/ or organised religion. And yes they do in bucket loads! And why not - any religion that preaches about a chap who said we should all live in peace then spends the next 2000 years killing each other about exactly HOW he said it deserved to be ridiculed!
Life of Brian makes fun of how religious people misinterpret things, will follow anything and will persecute anyone they perceive to be a heretic or a disbeliever.

I did think the part about the inquistion was a bit over the top, but mostly it was funny.
Mildly blasphemous, perhaps...
There's a thin line between what constitutes a good sense of homor and what is mockery, as anyone who frequents this forum knows.
I'm a Christian, and I like Monty Python and his "Flying Circus".....go figure.

Well it was only about a fictional man called Brian, if they had called him a name such as Jesus Christ, it probably could have been.
But it is possible to have a blasphemous film which is also a lot of good fun. But why upset the Christians.
I know of no one who was upset by The life of Brian, most Christians have a sense of humour.

Not blasphemous at all. All throughout the film Brian insists he is not the Messiah. He just has a lot of coincidences.

I think is was all in good fun. After all, Brian was born in a different manger, new his father to be a centurion named Naughtius Maximus, and made fun of false prophets, and others as well.

It demonstarted from the beginning that Brian is not Jesus, so it wasn't blasphemous, it was a very funny film.

It was not blasphemous.
Dictionary.com says - BLASPHEMY - impious utterance or action concerning God or sacred things.
At no point in the film was there any impiety towards any God or higher being.
It ridiculed established religions and false belief systems. This makes it HERETICAL.
All this is semantics, of course. Brian was one of the funniest, yet satirical films ever made!
