Barbers have chosen Mondays and Sundays as their days off for decades. They formed an agreement that gives them Monday to link with Sunday, leaving the majority of their customer base to come in on Saturdays. No school on Sats. and fewer people working on Satuday, than on Mondays.

It goes back to the occultic practices of barbers during the Dark Ages. Barbers originally were surgeons who cut off the foreskin of eight day old male Hebrew babies and hung the foreskin on a pole which is where the barber pole comes from. They keep this midieval superstitious practice alive by closing on Mondays as it it the "eighth day" of the week in commemoration of circumcision.

They work all weekend because that is when most people can go in; They take Mondays off because they still need a day off.
