assume you are boring because to them you appear to have a boring job?
Once I mention what I do, I don't get a chance to say much else. I do have a life outside of work, most of the women I have met on the West Coast judge guys too quickly, I never had this problem when I was on the East Coast

Yes, well, they use to, I use to be a paralegal and people would think I was this smart person and not want to talk to me. So, in order make myself sound more appealing I would fabricate my job title, I work for a bunch of A**hole attorneys. Then they would see I was fun.

I don't work there anymore, now I'm an office manager.

Yes- the trick is to not actually be boring.. or if that does not work just make up a totally ridiculous job and lie outright.

People like this because it shows you might have an imagination or sense of humor. If you don't have an imagination etc.. then just copy some movie characters job and back story. Most people want to talk about themselves so just turn it back on them.

Eventually you will have to tell the truth about your job, but if you make your career outlandish enough then it will seem like a good joke and not a weird stalker-ish thing to do.

Most people have boring jobs no matter what coast you are on so I would not blame the whole geography thing.

Just lie. Women on the west coast don't care what you really do as long as it sounds exciting. This goes for most people who live on the west coast, especailly california. It's all fantasy to them. The truth doesn't matter. Just say anything that will satisfy their insane fantasies.

why is one of the first few question we are asked when we meet someone new "so, what do you do for a living?"

because, like it or not ... we judge people based on what they do

if they answer "I'm a Dr." we might tend to treat them with respect, whereas if they answer "I'm a temp" we may treat them differently (based of course on what we do) ... and we (subconsciously or consciously) classify people

... this is nothing new, and it happens just as much on the east coast, perhaps people just already had some idea of who you were there

Not everyone can have their dream job you know? What does it matter what someone does for a living as long as it isn't illegal, hurting anybody, pays good enough for your needs, and you work hard. Besides, if a guy's work is too interesting, they might be more into the job than into the girl.

Maybe it's how you present the answer. Put a spin on it, spice it up. You know, I'm not a garbage man, I am a sanitation engineer. Ask them what they do. In LA you can always say your a screen writer, people will automatically know your a waiter, but what the heck.

Considering that you spend about 40hrs a week at work
you start to become part of your work, or at least your work becomes part of you.

Are you a funeral director?

Unfortunately, many women are shallow and/or have ulterior motives when it comes to the opposite sex.
