VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - The Vatican's second-highest ranking doctrinal official on Monday forcefully branded homosexual marriage an evil and denounced abortion and euthanasia as forms of "terrorism with a human face."

The attack by Archbishop Angelo Amato, secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, was the latest in a string of speeches made by either Pope Benedict or other Vatican officials as Italy considers giving more rights to gays.

I live in Italy and have followed this family's tragedy for the past 2 weeks. The Vatican continues to spout VILE.

Don't assume I don't know what I'm talking about.

Fundamentalists will have a lot of blood on their hands for the number of people they have "pushed away from Christ"....

They just don't get it...they cite their opinion of interpretation of scripture as ultimate truth...yet, they are not God...but, they speak with such authority.

I know many who will not even speak about religion because they have been turned away and shunned too many times...and I am gay! But, to identify myself as Christian to many gay friends...is confusing to them...because Christianity to them equals intollerance and hate...not love.

That's a shame. I have a hard time with the Vatican saying anything is "Terrorism" considering they are using their own prejudice towards these other groups in the same manner.

Hopefully Italy will give them equal rights to the Heterosexuals. I really wish our kids wouldn't listen to people like them... it's obvious they have absolutely no compassion towards individuals... They only want to look "Right" in front of everyone else. If they wish to condemn such actions as Homosexuality and Abortion... then first they need to clean up that pedophile priests they have and get rid of the other priests who were hiding them. They need to quit pointing the finger at people outside of their group while trying to hide their own skeletons in the closet...

All I can say is I personally don't know who is at
fault. I do know that teenagers are commiting
suicide at a alarming rate because family/friends/religion can not accept them as being gay.
Please people have mercy and let GOD be the judge,
don't condemn others have you not sinned yourself, if you think being gay is a sin.
People/teenage don't kill themselves because of a fad, expertiment or because they are bi-curious, the people who
kill themselves really whole heartly believe this is who they are, you can't change who you are, everyone teaches love thy
self than why won't you guys let them do that..

I am not gay, but I respect everyone and know I have no right
2 judge because they are asking for the same things as I the right 2 just be me..

You don't say if the 16 year old was a Catholic.

But I hardly think the Vatican's words would cause a young man to commit suicide. From what I've read about Catholic Italians...they really aren't Catholic anymore. The entire country seems to be happily heading to hell in a handbasket.

The Vatican and the Pope have a responsibility to speak up. Are they to stand by and watch as people toddle of with Satan?

That young man's death is not a result of the teachings of the Catholic church but a result of sin. He chose to follow sin and Satan took him up on it.

It's sad...I'm sorry for the young man...truly. He had a chance for salvation had he only sought God instead of death.

Obviously the young man had mental problems. Someone making a statement is not a reason to kill ones self. Thinking about suicide or trying to commit suicide is the first sign that there is a mental imbalance/problems. Dont blame the Pope for this young mans mental problems

Funny thing for a guy to say who never sleeps with women, wears robes, has outfits that are considered "divine" and goes by an organization that failed to acknowledge that Galileo was right for 400 years. That, and all the child molesting homosexual priests - they are hypocrites, and in this day and age - a pathetic joke.

So, did you know this 16 year old? Did you know what was going on in his/her life? Did you know what his/her home life was like and how he/she was doing in school? I bet you didn't. I bet you're just stiring up trouble. A death two weeks ago has nothing to do with a press release less then 24 hours old.

I've had friends who killed themselves, and I think that what you are doing is very low. Exploiting someone's death just to farther your hate for a religion is stupid. Whoever that kid was, he/she needs understanding, not you turning him/her into a martyr in your crusade against Christianity.

Why do you think you can guess the reason for another person committing suicide? Isn't that rather arrogant on your part?

As anyone can see, bashing Christianity is easy. Using Christian beliefs to scapegoat tragic events is acceptable.

What you may not understand about yourself is how close you are in moral reasoning to Adolph Eichman. You might want to consider that the next time you pretend to know the thoughts of another person.

I'm not sure how this teenager committing suicide is the Vatican's fault? Sure, make it look like it was the church's fault for not accepting the poor gay man.
