Well... white chocolate is made from cocoa butter (the fat) but does not contain any of the chocolate liquor or cocoa solids.

This is kind of a toss-up... it's made from cocoa butter, but it doesn't contain any of the typical chocolate flavors.

I'm inclined to say "No".
White chocolate is NOT really chocolate.

My arguement/analogy is if you make a spread out of peanut oil only... is that peanut butter? No, it's not.

Peanut butter is mashed peanuts similar to real chocolate which contains cocoa solids.

Yes according to the FDA (proposed in 1997, approved in 2002 and effective in 2004)

There is a lot of other old and outdated information about this on the web but everyone in the industry knows that real white chocolate contains cocoa butter while the cheaper confectioners coating contains vegetable oil.

No it is not chocolate because white chocolate contains neither cocoa solids nor chocolate liquor (cocoa mass). In many places it cannot be labeled as "chocolate" because it technically isn't chocolate. It still tastes delicious though! Mmmm. Now I want some.

Yes, and dark chocolate is the best. It's a little bitter but it is delicious plus they say that dark chocolate is good for you.

No. The first answer is right about how it is made. Unlike chocolate, it does not contain cocoa. Instead, it contains a vanilla flavoring.
